Kyle Campbell Obituary

Lt. Kyle Anthony Campbell

It is with our deepest sadness that we share the passing of First Lieutenant Kyle Anthony Campbell, United States Air Force, on March 12, 2021, after a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Kyle was medically evacuated from his first Air Force deployment in the Middle East, and in three short weeks, we lost this beautiful, kind and emerging leader.

Kyle was born January 5, 1996, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. At the age of 2, his mother moved back to the US to raise him in Bremerton. He graduated from Olympic High School in 2014 where he excelled in academics, athletics, and serving the community. Kyle was a team captain of the Track & Field team, he placed at the State championships multiple times for both shot put and discus. He also played Basketball and was a member of the swim team.

In the community, Kyle was a mentor for disadvantaged youth and a volunteer for the Bremerton Salvation Army. A camp counselor once wrote in his summary of observations about Kyle "Kyle has the uncanny ability to lead from behind". For Kyle, his motto in life was "Failure is not an Option" and he showed that in everything he did.

During his senior year in High School Kyle received a congressional nomination, and subsequent acceptance, to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He graduated from there in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. He served as a Logistics Officer, distinguishing himself as a leader beyond his years. Kyle was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas and had recently deployed as Installation Deployment Officer, 378th Air Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron as part of Operation SPARTAN SHIELD. As a young officer, Kyle distinguished himself for his amazing work ethic, problem-solving ability and compassion for his peers and airmen under his command. Kyle was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his numerous accomplishments.

Kyle will be remembered as a compassionate young man, who loved food, travel, and time with family. Kyle was loved by many, but none more than his mama, Wendie Scott Pond. Kyle and Wendie were two peas in a pod, with a deep friendship and love for one another. Wendie's "Sonshine" will be a bright light in her universe forever. She is surrounded by many who will love and support her as she finds a path to honor Kyle's legacy and keep his spirit alive in service to the community through the Kyle Anthony Campbell Foundation that she will form to honor him.

Kyle has a large extended family who love him dearly and were so proud of him and his accomplishments in the world. Kyle is survived by his Grandmother, Joyce Scott, his father, Carlton Campbell, and half-sisters Sashae Campbell and Renee Campbell, his Aunts and Uncles: Jeff Scott, Dona Scott Jenniges, Leslie Scott Kelley and Sean Kelley; Cousins: Connor Kelley, Natalie Kelley, Makaila Scott, Martina Scott and many loving friends and family around the world.

A memorial is set for April 17th at Nellis AFB, and a celebration of life in Bremerton will be hosted by his family as soon as Covid protocol allows for large groups to gather.

I didn't know that he passed away, but he was my mentor when I was 9 or 10. We would always see each other on thursdays/fridays and I was happy to see him. The last time I saw him was when he came to visit me when I was 4th grade and that hit me hard. Kyle, I wish you saw this but may you rest in peace, I love you brother from another mother

I served with Kyle for about 6 months to coordinate a months long AF cadet immersion program. His knowledge, personal network, and efficient work ethic was humbling to watch. It is no exaggeration to say the program would have failed without his leadership and energy. Though senior to him in rank and age, I learned far more from him than he learned from me. I am truly grateful to have served with him and am a far better person for the experience.
My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. The AF lost a truly exceptional Officer, but the world lost a magnificent soul.

Kyle was an inspiration to all of us here at PSAB and the hardest charging lieutenant I have ever seen. He is greatly missed. RIP my Air Force brother, you will not be forgotten. My deepest prayers to the family.

Kyle,

I didn’t know you for long, but you were my dearest friends in such a short sound of time. Right after we met we became great friends. Our conversations and life talks were some of the best, and most meaningful conversations I have ever had. You were there for me when tragedy hit my life, and I was with you until the moment your plane took off. I hold those memories so close. Thank you for being one of those few people you meet in life that you have an instant connection with, and can laugh and cry with. We even talked about this together, and how. I would see you again. I know that has not changed, I will see you again. I am forever grateful to have you in my life. Thank you for all you taught me, and added to my life. I miss you. Love you always.

I was deployed with Kyle, he was our Deployment officer and was on his first deployment and just grinding and taking care of business! He was so professional and wise for his age. He personally helped me quickly get home with my younger brother passed away suddenly and ensured I had swift return travel. He was an amazing officer and ball of energy to be around! He is sorely missed, the world is darker because of his absence. I think of you all the time young man.

I had the honor and privilege of being deployed with Kyle. His professionalism and outstanding ability to meet any challenges thrown at him only pale in comparison to the kindness and guidance he showed his airmen and his fellow officers. He will always be a shining example for all Logistics Readiness Officers of what we can and should be. I wish all the love and compassion in the world to surround his family and friends!

I admire the love he had for his family and I know what a special bond there was between him and his Mom. He was an uniquely special person. Such a brilliant light that was dimmed too early. The world was his oyster. I only knew Kyle briefly, but I know, he was that special. Thoughts and prayers for Wendie and Kyle today and always.

I did not know Kyle personally, but knew him through his mother who shared him and his accomplishments with so many of her Jamaican Community friends. Through her, we all saw the beautiful, strong, bright light and leader that Kyle was. Sending love and deep sympathy to his mother Wendie, and all of the family and friends that lost their beloved Kyle.

Very sincerely,

I never met Kyle but thanks to loving Mom Wendie I feel like I have watched this brilliant young man grow from a toddler to a compassionate and intelligent leader. Each major accomplishment packed into his relatively short life was so kindly shared with the wide circle of friends from Jamaicans.com who love Wendie and Kyle. Wendie I was as proud of Kyle as if he was my own son. Thank you for sharing him with us because a light like his deserves to be shared with the world - perhaps a purpose fulfilled. My Jamaican Mom’s maiden name was Campbell from St. Ann’s so who knows ... Wendie I am praying for your comfort knowing that your Angel Kyle is a blessing to so many who he inspired and helped. God bless, Sharon
