Matthew Mattson Obituary
Poulsbo - Matthew M. Mattson, 60, of Poulsbo died in a hydroplane racing accident on June 25, 2021.
Matt is survived by his wife, Michelle Bostick, children Maelena Mattson (Blake Stoudt), Brianna Gibbins (Lonnie Gibbins), Jackson Lowder and Spencer Lowder, brothers Thomas Mattson and James Mattson, sister, Laurie Mattson, nephew Joshua Capps (Stephanie Korst), great nephew Daniel Mattson and great niece Freja Capps.
He was preceded in death by his father, Iver Mattson, mother, Katherine Mattson, brother, William Mattson and nephew Jase Mattson.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 3 pm, at Kiana Lodge, 14976 Sandy Hook Rd. NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370. The family respectfully requests that those attending wear a face mask if not vaccinated for Covid-19.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that people donate to the Hydroplane & Race Boat Museum, 5917 S. 196th Street, Kent, WA 98032 (206-764-9453) in Matt's honor. Their mission is to inspire and motivate learning and achievement while preserving the legacy of Unlimited Hydroplane racing.

I heard of Matt's passing today and I want to offer my condolences to his family and friends. Matt was a friend for 10 or so years, I completely trusted him, and I will miss our occasional conversations about boating, Hydroplanes, and life. He was a friend to all who knew him.

Words can't describe the hole in my heart. Matt was considered as my brother as he lived on our family farm for many years and we grew up with him. He bought my sister and I a car so we could drive it in the field before we had license to do so, to show us how to drive. Such a sweetheart!
The memories of Matt never will escape my memory and he will always be in my heart. He was kind of guy that you want to be around and his smile was infectious. He touched so many peoples lives and he will never be forgotten. Sorry he had to go so soon!
I loved him so much, my condolences to his family.

Every meeting with Matt brought a smile to your face. My last conversation with him was a meaningful one about what matters in life. It concluded with a warm handshake. He was a good man.

Although we only knew Matt as a customer for a couple of years and spent at most 3 hours with him, Matt's kindness and caring was humbling. His knowledge of engines was legendary and his love for his craft shone through. A man of Matt's character is rare, and our hearts go out to his family and friends who must miss him dearly.

Matt will be greatly missed.
I am proud to have shared the same water ( and last name) while racing in the
Local boat races.
While painting a small boat for him last summer, I had gloves on , ready to roll on some paint when I realized I forgot the music to set the mood.....I try to match owners taste , not mine.
As if on cue , a pair of Flatbottoms sounded off in the distance, then made some speed runs .
Gonna miss , but glad I got to know Matt.
My thoughts, prayers and best wishes to Michelle and the family, plus our extended " hydro family."

I watched you go from a teenager to an adult. You became one of the nicest, caring man. You were always available to help your friends. My kids and grandkids shared memories of Viking Fest and 3rd of July at Poulsbo Marina, racing your remote hydros. You will be so missed by your family and friends and community. Rest in peace kid.

It is with deep sorrow we send our condolences at the loss of Matt. This news came as a tremendous shock to all, but even more; to you , his family.
