Roy Swift Obituary

Roy Orlando Swift III

Poulsbo, WA - Roy Swift III passed peacefully on May 8th, 2021 at the age of 82. His family was all together with him in his last few days. Roy was born in Fairfield, AL to Roy Jr. and Margaret Swift.

He was an only child who excelled in sports going on to play football for Auburn and Samford University. He met Sue, his wife of 61 years, at Samford University and they married in 1960 and went on to have three children: Roy, Laurie and Jonathan.

Roy entered the Navy in November of 1967 and served as a military chaplain for 30 years, which included serving in Vietnam, Hawaii, Spain, Okinawa and Yokosuka. His love of football followed him into the military where he coached local base adult teams. After his last tour in Japan, Roy and Sue returned to the Northwest to retire in Poulsbo, WA.

He is survived by his wife Sue, their 3 adult children; Roy Swift IV (Leslie), Laurie Raisys (Victor), Jon Swift (Christine), grandchildren, Sofija, Erik, Liuci and Vaiva Raisys, Kelsey and Kyle Blumen, Christopher, Matt and Alessia Sarale and great grandson Kaiden Blumen.

Our family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit and Hospice at St. Michaels for their loving care of Roy during his last days of life.

A "Remembering Roy" Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 17th. Please contact the family for details.

So sorry to hear of Roy´s passing. Both Roy & my late husband, Earle, were from Alabama & shared many stories of growing up there. I remember Roy was a very good Tenor Sax player at one point in time. We all had some fun times on those UW Football game boat trips, too! Take care, Sue!
