Abigail Victoria Cate

Knoxville - Abigail Victoria Cate, 23, joined her mother in heaven on Monday, January 9, 2021. She was gifted to us as a loving surprise (not a mistake) on February 14, 1997, which is a day that is officially ruined forever. Abigail was the daughter of the late/great Glynda "Twinkie" Cate, who will be greeting her with open arms and donuts in heaven. We know her lighthouse-loving grandmother, Barbara "Mimi" Jenkins, who loved her so dearly, is probably giggling alongside her as well. She is survived by her father, the infamous Steven Allen Cate, and her five deeply devoted siblings: Beau (Cathy) Bilyeu, Bethany Bilyeu (Cody) Roberson, Aaron "Smiley" Cate, Teal Bilyeu, and Tyler Bilyeu. She is also survived by her soul sister/best friend, Sarah Sharp, her beloved bushy-tailed black cat, Bebe, and her sweet & stinky Yorkie, Puddin'. Abigail was nicknamed "Gabby Abby" as a little girl, because she was someone that never knew a stranger. She treated every person she came across with the highest form of compassion, because she was a living & breathing form of love. She had no recognition of "self", and she was a shining example of humility & grace. While she didn't deserve this tragic fate, the world didn't deserve her purity just the same. Abigail was quick-witted, quirky, and an absolute bundle of joy. She had even created her own goofy little language, that her whole family had adopted as their own. She was bright & brilliant, well-read, and a true lover of wisdom. Abigail fell asleep every night to late night NPR jazz, and listened to NPR talk radio all throughout the day. She was also an avid admirer of her local PBS station, being obsessed with NOVA and Antiques Roadshow in particular. She deeply enjoyed playing Scrabble, and she loved doing puzzles so much that she even had a China cabinet dedicated to her collection of them. She was a devout lover of music, especially from the 60s & 70s, being the Doors biggest fan to date. Some of her elder siblings even exposed her to the realm of live music, including their unforgettable family vacation to Bonnaroo. Abby was the sweetest, funniest, and most lovable human to ever grace this earth. She was wise beyond her years, and a starry-eyed dreamer from another planet. We were the fortunate ones to have known an angel such as Abigail. Everything she touched turned to gold. She was loved by every person she ever met, and she will continue to be loved, forevermore. We will miss you until we can be with you in heaven, once again. Shine brightly for us, Abby. You will always be our baby girl. Maktub.

Services honoring Abby will be held 3:00 PM graveside, Thursday, Jan. 14th in Highland Memorial in the Whispering Hopes Garden.

I just learned of the tragic loss of Abby. My heart is so sad. I’m a member of Cherokee Country Club and will remember Abby as the kindest, sweetest, smiliest angel face I’ve ever seen at Cherokee. She made me and my family feel so special and I know she did that with everybody she met. She made the best Pina Coladas!! Nobody in Cherokee could or knew how to make one but she taught people. She was so polite, caring and just an ANGEL!! She will always be remembered and we will miss her very much. Sweet Abby, Rest In Peace! I’m sure you are so happy with your momma and our dear Father in Heaven.

I didn’t know Abby well, but she made a big impression on me whenever I was around her.
She was always one of the hardest working, friendliest people working at Cherokee CC. It didn’t matter if she was serving food to guests, hauling dirty towels to the laundry, or emptying trash cans, she always had a huge smile on her face and a pep in her step. Her sunny disposition will be missed by me and those of us who were blessed to be around her. I’m so sad I never got to tell her how special she was. My prayers go out to all of Abby’s family and friends.
