Colleen Heck Herendon, age 88, of Knoxville and Sevierville passed away Friday March 27, 2015 at the family home with her devoted husband by her side. Colleen was born October 16 1926 in Newport Tn the daughter of Minnis and Nellie Lintz Ottinger. At an early age the family moved to Knoxville. After graduating from Knoxville High School, she met her 1st husband Robert Heck .Robert was attending the University of Tennessee under the pilot cadet training program US Air Corps. After marrying they moved to Washington State. When WWII was over they moved back to Knoxville to raise their family. Many years after Roberts passing she met the 2nd love of her life - Vernon Herendon. Vernon had recently moved back to East Tn after a 32 year career in California. Colleen took early retirement from Fulton High School so they could travel. With a blended family of 6 children- 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren they always had company in their mountain home. When not traveling, Colleen enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining. The Mountain Home was nicknamed "Camp Grandma"- all the grandkids spent their summers and vacations there. She was known for her kind heart and generous nature. At a recent family gathering no one could ever remember an unkind word or deed from Grandma.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 30 years, Vernon Herendon; her sons Billy Heck, Tim and Lisa Heck; daughter Judy and Paul Newcomb and her step daughters Merry Ann Hensley- Tina Fox of Huntington Beach, CA and Laura Herendon. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918. Family and friends will meet at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home at 12:45 pm on Friday, April 3rd to go in procession to the graveside service in Lynnhurst Cemetery. Colleen was very literally the nicest person I know. My Mom and I lived three doors up from her on Lutrell st (I know it was many years ago) I wished I had told her what an influence she had on me. I thought she was so beautiful and sweet. She was the only women on our poor street that worked and I admired her for it so I always wanted to have a job when I grew up which I always did. She did so many kind things for me and Mom

Candice Colleen Heck Dingus, my dear friend, I am so sorry for your loss of a beautiful, sweetheart of a grandmother. I was fortunate to meet her many times and always enjoyed her loving smile and kindness. Judy, you are especially in my heart, as I know how much your mother meant to you and your brothers. Colleen was the nicest person on earth. I was lucky to get to grow up around her. Alzheimer's is a bad disease and it feels like a long time since I have known her, but I will always remember her she made a huge impact on me. I am greatful for her and Vernon. I appreciate the years of constant dedication Vernon put into being an excellent caregiver to her. She had the best care,she could have possibly had.
