Cora Sherrod, of Kokomo, IN, passed away at 1:15 a.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. Cora was born July 27, 1921 to William and Betty (Howard) Smith, in Goin, Claiborne County, TN. She married Glynn B. Sherrod, March 11, 1950, in Knoxville, TN. Cora worked in production at Standard Knitting Mills in Knoxville for most of the 1940's, but was a homemaker and mother after her marriage. As a newlywed who had never traveled more than 60 miles from her birthplace, she moved with her husband to Big Delta, AK, where he was stationed in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. She was raised in the Primitive Baptist Church, and in recent years occasionally attended South Side Christian Church. She loved bluegrass and old-time country music, and Primitive Baptist hymns. She also loved classic television shows like Lucille Ball, The Waltons, The Three Stooges, and she never missed Bob Ross's "Joy of Painting." She also loved the writing of Tennessee newspaper humorist Sam Venable, and one of her most prized possessions was a well-worn hardcover first edition of "Gone With The Wind".

Cora is survived by her son, Darrell Sherrod (wife, Tonia), of Kokomo; special niece, Dossie Watson, of Knoxville, TN; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers, eight sisters, and infant son Kevin.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary, 3400 S. Webster St, Kokomo. Services will be on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Becky Sundquist officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Side Christian Church, 201 E.
