Demetrios "Jimmy" Tampasis

TAMPASIS, DEMETRIOS "JIMMY" - age 73, of Knoxville, a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly Friday, May 28, 2010 at his home. He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Jimmy, a native, of Greece, was a longtime Knoxville restaurateur having owned, The Open Kitchen, Charcoal Hearth and Jimmy's. Before retiring he owned a video store-Video Knight. Prior to coming to the U.S. in 1962, arriving in Roanoke, Virginia, he served two years, in the Greek Army and was an electrician by occupation. He followed his family to Knoxville in 1969. Jimmy is survived by his loving family; wife, of 39 years, Sophia Ferousis Tampasis; daughter and son-in-law, Artemis and Peter Dedes; son, Ari Tampasis; grandchildren, Grace Vallante and George Dedes; brother, George Tampasis, of Greece; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service honoring Jimmy's life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, at St George Greek Orthodox Church with Father John Kostas officiating. Interment will follow at Lynnhurst Cemetery. Pallbearers; Mike Nassios, George Nassios, Kosta Nassios, Sammy Peroulas, Charlie Peroulas, George Peroulas and Sam Keramidas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919.
