Gail McGinnis Obituary

Gail Ann McGinnis

Lookout Mountain, GA - Gail Ann Brock McGinnis, 73, of Lookout Mountain, GA, died early Wednesday morning February 10, 2021. Originally from Knoxville, TN, she was the daughter of Herman and Etta Perry Brock who predeceased her. According to at least one publication, Gail came from an "old and noble" family. She was humbled by the fact that several of her ancestors were among the first settlers to our wonderful country.

Gail made many of her first and best friends while attending Staub Elementary, Tyson Junior High, and West High School class of 1965. She was an accomplished and classical trained pianist with a love of music that was infectious. Gail graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in mathematics whereupon she was hired by the State of Georgia as a Computer Programmer. She went on to become an Engineering Assistant for Western Electric (ATT) in Atlanta, a Banker in Charlotte, a Sales Rep for Xerox in Chattanooga, and a pretty good shade tree lawyer, thanks to her many years of coordinating continuing education seminars for professionals.

What she was really good at, however, was taking care of her husband Richard A. McGinnis. Something for which he is profoundly grateful and will sadly miss. Richard and Gail were married for 49 years, 7 months, and 23 days. They were inseparable. You rarely saw one without the other. So it was perhaps fitting, though bittersweet, that within a week of Gail's stage 4 cancer diagnosis last September, Richard received his own stage 2-3 cancer diagnosis. So off they went together, as usual, on their last adventure to cancer world. Gail made it to the Promised Land, leaving Richard to wander in the wilderness without her.

Gail will be buried in the maternal family plot of Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville, TN, on Saturday, February 13.

I remember her, so sorry we lost one of our own. I would have been at the Funeral but read the email just barely hours late. Bless her husband and the rest of her family.

Richard,
I’m so sorry to hear of Gail Ann’s passing. I wish we had visited more over the years. We always had fun being together and catching up.
If there is anything we can do for you, please don’t hesitate to call on us. Our home number is listed online at Reflecting Drive.
I doubt if we will be at the funeral on Saturday. Mom is celebrating her 98th birthday tomorrow and is not getting out much because of covid.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love in Christ,
Trish & Jerry Jenkins
Aunt Mary Margaret Brock
