John Layman Obituary

LAYMAN, MAJOR GENERAL, JOHN R. (RICK) USAF, retired - 72 of Punta Gorda, Florida died Monday, July 3, 2006 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda. He was born September 21, 1933 in Akron, Ohio and moved to Punta Gorda 8 years ago from St. Louis, Missouri. A veteran of the Viet Nam War, he retired after 32 years of service in the U.S. Air Force and the Missouri Air National Guard. As a young man he grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where he graduated from Young High School, Class of 1951 and in 1955 graduated from of the Case Institute of Technology, Cleveland Ohio. Member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. He is survived by: his loving family, his wife of 51 years, Linda I. Layman of Punta Gorda; three daughters, Suzanne (Ralph Richardson) Layman of San Diego, CA, Kaki (Mike) Brooks of Berthoud, CO. and Wendy (Jeff) Bischler of Raleigh, NC; a son, Roderick (Diane) Layman of Davis, CA; a sister, June Ramgren of Murrieta, CA; 7 grandchildren; and his beloved Lab, Mach II Jet. Memorial services will be held Friday 2:00 pm, July 7, 2006 at the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church. Rev. Douglas H. Zipperer will officiate with military honors by the U.S. Air Force. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, 21075 Quesada Ave., Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or to the Cooper Street Recreation Center, 650 Mary Street, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Friends may visit online at: www.robersonfh.com to sign the guest book and extend condolences to the family. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Punta Gorda Chapel.

I knew Rick as uncle "Red" My Mother, rest her soul, Sylvia was Rick's Sister, I have not seen him in years, but always thought of him and his family. My first name was from Uncle Red. I was always very proud of my Uncle. Love to his Family.
