KATHRYN HANSEN Obituary

HANSEN, KATHRYN MARIE GORDON BOH WOLFE "KAY" - age 83, while surrounded by her children, Gordon Boh, Michael Boh, Kathryn Boh Morgan, and her husband Joseph Hansen, went to her heavenly reward on Saturday, February 21, 2015, in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Evie Gordon; her daughter-in-law, Mary Lane (Gordon) Boh; her grandchildren, Stephen Boh, Stephanie Boh, Ashley Boh, Taylor Morgan, Lauren Morgan; great grandchildren, Jackson Boh, Nathan Boh, Natalie Smiley; and special family friend, Carleton 'Butch' Bryant; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her husband, Joe Hansen, is comforted and surrounded by his children, Ted (Jennifer) Hansen, Chris (Mabel) Hansen, and Laura (Alvin) Richards. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Marie Gordon; her brothers, William 'Bill' Gordon, and John A. 'Jack' Gordon. Born in Chicago, Kay moved with her family to New Orleans where she graduated from Mercy High School and later served as president of its Alumni Association. She loved sailing, camping, and Mardi Gras. She was a former member of Bay Waveland and Southern Yacht Clubs. As a young lady in New Orleans she was a past maid and queen of the Krewe of Hermes. She attended Ole Miss, and soon married John Robert "Bob" Boh at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She lived in New Orleans with Bob and their young family until his untimely death in 1969. She worked at St. Francis Xavier School as a P.E. instructor, and Laitram Corporation as a purchasing secretary. She later married Dr. Marion J. "Sony" Wolfe and moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Kay worked for Hancock County General Hospital as purchasing agent, but soon opened the Landmark Restaurant on Main Street in Bay St. Louis. The Landmark was featured in Southern Living magazine as a dining destination on your way down the coast to the New Orleans World's Fair. She later retired as a librarian from the Hancock County Library System. In retirement, Kay volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society while she also enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting with friends. After Hurricane Katrina, she settled safely in Maryville, Tennessee, where she could care for her husband 'Sony' Wolfe until his passing after a long illness. She enjoyed the Strang Senior Center in the years after Sony's death where she met and married Joe Hansen. When they weren't traveling, they had fun and fellowship with their friends in the Knoxville area. Throughout her life she was a wonderful, loving, caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and sister-in-law, but it was obvious she cherished her role as a very special and much loved grandmother. Kay is remembered as a lady of great strength, faith, and class. She is loved and missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the warm and caring nurses, doctors, and others who took such great care of Kay at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, especially the staff of the Palliative Care Team. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, visitation at 1:00 p.m. with service at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN, 37923. Memorial gifts may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 228 South Beach Blvd. Bay St. Louis, MS, 39520. A memorial Mass and reception will be held April 25, 2015, visitation at 2:30 pm with service at 3:30 p.m. for friends and family in the Gulf Coast area at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Bay St. Louis, MS. Dear Gordon, Michael, and Kathryn,
I have such fond memories of your mother- her smile, laugh, and wonderful sense of humor. She was a one- of- kind woman with much strength and tenacity, yet so warm. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.
Love, Cousin Charlotte

I have known Kay for about four years and feel very blessed to have had her as a part of my life. I know she was a good sport and a wonderful companion for my Dad. She was so friendly and such a good listener. I am already missing our chats so much. I am so sad I did not get to spend more time with her before she left this world. I know she is in a better place now, where she is not weighed down with all of the struggles with the ailments that incapacitated her in the last six months. She is in God's loving hands now, and I look forward to seeing her when it is time for me to exit this world.
