Garfield Williams Obituary
He graduated New London High school and attended Howard University. He was employed at Electric Boat but soon after he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years of active duty. He returned and married his fiancé, Shernell Knight. He continued to be employed at Electric Boat for 50 years.
He was a member of First Cathedral Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut where he served as deacon.
His passions included playing the piano, antiques, painting, and gardening.
He leaves to mourn his beloved wife and best friend for more than 49 years, Shernell K. Williams, his sister Lona Goodman of New London, one Aunt, Doris Blanco, three sisters-in-law, Juanita Timmons and Christine Knight of New London, Connecticut and Louise Knight of Princeville, North Carolina and one brother-in-law, Jessie Knight of Niantic, Connecticut. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces and nephews, to many to name. He was predeceased by his brother Cyrus Williams and his mother and father.

I am so sorry to hear about Garfield's passing. I worked with him for over 30 years and he was a wonderful person. We had so many laughs and so much fun working together. Rest in peace Garfield and prayers to his family.

Shernell, I can only offer my deepest and sincere condolences for your loss. Garfield was a unique person; always a smile, soft spoken and a true friend for over 40 years. We worked together from 1973 until he retired. I missed him greatly, since he was always there, since I started at EB. He made many situations tolerable regarding work, and actually life. He was a truly wonderful friend and mentor and I will miss him forever. May he rest in peace knowing how many people's lives he touched and he's earned his place in heaven. God Bless.

He was the sweetest happiest person I ever met. I knew him from E.B. for many years and Barry's Drycleaners as a customer. He always made you laugh and he cared about people. I am sadden to hear of his passing. He will be missed. May God be with you, Shernell and may the memories help comfort you at a such a difficult time

I met Garfield in 1973 and have continued wonderful friendship what this much-loved man 43 years. Since he retired I have longed greatly to visit with him. But nothing was arranged he was joyful he was loved he was vibrant outside of work I have only seen him once at Kohl's where he was especially attentive and friendly. We would tease him and he would tease us. I think he I finally know his middle name Hodden after the great Garfield Hodden Williams a pastor. Gary s Hall

Mrs. Williams and family, I am very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. I worked with Garfield at Electric Boat and I wanted to share with you that your husband Garfield was a kind and gentle man. He had good sense of humor, he always had a smile on his face and he was always soft spoken and good natured. I have many fond memories working and talking with Garfield and I as sure he will be missed by many. I pray that today he is in the arms of Jesus Christ in heaven.
