Louise Benedict Obituary

BENEDICT, LOUISE VICTORIA SCHMID - age 96, formerly of Nashville and a recent resident of Knoxville, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Shannondale Healthcare in Knoxville. She was a longtime member of the Cathedral of the Incarnation Catholic Church in Nashville. Mrs. Benedict was born in Franklin, KY, and spent her early years in Mitchellville and Gallatin, TN. After high school in Gallatin, she was employed by Genesco for 13 years and in 1944 married Joseph A. Benedict from Memphis, after his service in World War II. They moved to Nashville in 1948 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage until his death in 1994. Both were active in Catholic Organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Ladies of Charity, Legion of Mary, and the Altar Society. They were also supportive of community organizations, such as Big Brothers, Father Ryan High School and Vanderbilt University. Mrs. Benedict was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Katherine Schmid, both formerly of Gallatin, TN and Neuburg, Germany; brother, Joseph Schmid of Gallatin; sisters, Alma Avaritt of Gallatin, TN, and Elsie Schlameuss of Valley Stream, NY. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. Benedict Jr. and Becky Benedict of Knoxville, TN; grandson Joseph Keith Benedict and wife Laura of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Stacey Wiseman and husband, Dr. Brian Wiseman of Knoxville, TN; six great grandchildren, Anna Katherine, Lizzie, Charlotte, Tess, and Louisa Benedict all of Dallas, TX and Joseph Maxwell Wiseman of Knoxville. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Calvary Cemetery, 1001 Lebanon Pike, Nashville, TN 37210 with Father Mike Johnston officiating.
