Meda Holland Obituary

HOLLAND, MEDA RAE BRANHAM - 76, of Mechanicsville (Richmond), VA, passed away at her home Wednesday, May 19. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Joseph, and four children: Kathy Holland (David Radford), of Oak Ridge, TN; Nancy Jenkins (Tom), Robert Holland, and Leigh Ann Klosky (Steve), all of Richmond. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Rachael Fisher, of San Francisco, CA; Simon Radford, of Toronto, Canada; Evelyn Radford, of Oak Ridge, Ben, Daniel, John, Max, Sam, Alex, Anna, and Kate, all of Richmond. Meda Rae was born in McDowell County, WV, and educated in the public schools there, graduating from Big Creek High School in War, WV. She had a deep and abiding affection for the Appalachian Mountain region in which she was raised. She was proud to be the wife of a Baptist pastor and served with him in churches in Spotsylvania County, Roanoke County, Portsmouth, and Richmond, VA. Meda Rae was a devout Christian and a member of the Broadus Memorial Baptist Church of Mechanicsville, from which they retired in 1997 following 24 years of service. She was a faithful Bible teacher in the Sunday School. A memorial service will be held at Broadus Church on Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. and after the service as well. Because of the circumstances, the family requests that, rather than flowers, any memorial donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or to Broadus Memorial Baptist Church

Joe,

My sympathy and prayers for you and your family during this time of parting. You and Meda Rae have been models of faith and marriage to countless people. I remember reading that death is the way a Christian marriage is suppose to end. You and Meda Rae have shown that by your fifty six years as husband and wife. May God bless you in the journey ahead.

I am so sad to hear of this news. Meda Rae was a true blessing in so many people's lives and she will be truly missed by all.

Meda Rae was always smiling even though her struggles with health issues were present. She had a quiet but strong aura. Patient as well. Always willing to say Good Morning! to all. She will be missed. I am thankful she is not suffering anymore. Reverend Holland and Meda Rae's marriage and contribution to many congregations is a memorial to their unselfish lives. We should be in awe and try to emulate as much as possible. Sincerely, Buddy and Renee Crawford

While I did not know Mrs. Holland, I had the wonderful pleasure of being in a Bible study with her daughter, Leigh Ann, a precious disciple of Christ, who must have made her mother so proud. I am proud to call Leigh Ann, friend. Our study group have been in prayer for Mrs. Holland for a long time and know what a wonderful Christian she was and the extent of her dreaded disease. I join the family in praise for her "home going", happy the suffering is over.
God bless you all,
Diann Mitchell
