Ralph Gillum Obituary
Knoxville, TN
Ralph William Gillum, age 64, of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday April 19, 2017. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. After his service in the Navy he returned home and began his career as a custom home painter, he learned his trade from his father. Ralph took great pride in his work and was very meticulous. He loved to cook for his family even though he was slow as molasses and it may be midnight before you ate, it was always worth it. He loved his family and children unconditionally, and would go without to make sure others had what they needed. Ralph was hard headed and stubborn and his excuse was always "I'm A Gillum"! He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is preceded in death by parents, Ben D. and Clara J. Gillum; niece, Jennifer R. Gillum. He is survived by his children, Dustin (Ashley) Gillum, Meghann Gillum, David Smith; siblings, Rosemary (Rex) Warthen, Sandy (Jimmy Asher) Gillum, Nanette Gillum and Ben D. "Benji" Gillum, Jr.; nieces, Renee Asher (Kim Harper), Jessica (Jake) Boger; nephews, Joshua (Raeanne) Asher, Jackson Hubbard; granddaughter, Harper G. Gillum; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins from Indiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Also his extended family, Maria B. Gillum and Kath L. Smith.
Funeral service will be 6:00 PM Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Miller Funeral, Pastor Ben Ward officiating. Graveside and interment service will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, April 25, 201,7 at the E. TN Veterans Cemetery on Gov. John Sevier Hwy. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home Maryville. www.millerfuneralhome.org (865)982-6041.
