Sarah Alice Parkman Robertson Overton, age 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 2nd, 2017. She was born on May 4, 1941 in Russell County, Alabama. She was a 1959 graduate of Chavala High School in Seale, AL and attended Howard College in Birmingham, AL. She was a member of Haynes Flat Baptist Church and had served as a teacher, the Church Clerk, Historian, and a member of the church choir. She served as the Historian of the Cumberland Gap Baptist Association. She was a member of the Cumberland Gap Baptist Association and the Haynes Flat Baptist Church Women On Mission, holding various positions in these organizations.
She was a Charter Member and Past President of Harrogate Garden Club; a Member of the Cumberland Park Garden Club, Middlesboro, KY; a Life Member of the Tennessee Federation of Gardens Clubs; President of the Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs (TFGC) 2009-2011 where she was instrumental in supporting the Cumberland Trail State Park Land Trust; Chaplain of TFGC; Garden Education Centers Chairman, TFGC; TFGC Advisory Board; a Tennessee Master Gardner; Founder of The Friends of Racheff House; Former President of Knox County Council of Garden Clubs; a Life Member of the National Garden Clubs (NGS); Project Chairman, Deep South Region of NGS; Master Flower Show Judge with NGS; and NGS Landscape Design Consultant.
She was preceded in death by parents, Richard Lewis and Rubye Bush Parkman; Brother, Steven Lewis Parkman; Sister, Bonnie Parkman Parris; Husband, E. Oscar Robertson; Step-Sons, Edwin G. Robertson and Lewis Overton; Brothers-In-Law, Peter Soukup and Forrest Crouch; Sisters-In-Law, Martha P. Robertson and Magaline Overton Cable. She is survived by her husband of 10 years, LeRoy Overton of Speedwell, TN; Sisters, Frances Soukup of Deatsville, AL; Glenye Jo Crouch of Seale, AL; Melanie (Albert) Howard of Seale, AL; Apphia (Cecil) Woods of Panama City Beach, FL; Brothers, Dean (Brenda) Parkman of Montgomery, AL; James "Brownie" Parkman of Apalachicola, FL; Step-Sons, Craig E. Receiving of Friends will be held on Thursday, July 6th from 5 until 7 pm at the Haynes Flat Baptist Church in Speedwell, TN with the Funeral immediately following. Rev. Randall Mayfield and Rev. Travis Dunn officiating. Receiving of Friends will also be held on Saturday, July 8th from 10 until noon Eastern Time at the Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City, AL with a memorial service immediately following.
Interment will be in the Parkman Cemetery in Seale, AL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Servolution Health Services, 181 Powell Valley School Lane, Speedwell, TN 37870.
