Thomas Scalf Obituary

SCALF, THOMAS HENRY, JR. - age 62 of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Alcoa, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 in VA, following a brief illness. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 9, 1948 to Thomas Henry Scalf, Sr. and Evelyn Newman Scalf, Tom was the oldest of four children. He was raised in Calderwood and Alcoa and graduated from Alcoa High School in 1966. An alumnus of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he held a degree in chemical engineering. Tom married Gaye Glass in 1970, from that union came Leanne Rebecca Scalf Hankins and Thomas Henry Scalf, III. His great love for and pride in his country was demonstrated by his twelve years spent serving his country in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, Tom moved into employment in the private sector in the area of logistics and computer programming. At the time of his death he was employed by L-3 Communications as a Senior Principle Logistics Analyst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, Sr. and Evelyn. He is survived by his children, Leanne Hankins of Martinsville, VA and Thomas H., III and wife Beatrice Scalf of Madison, TN; grandchildren, Mary Grace, Michael, and Marjorie Hankins, Thomas H., IV, Lilianna and Elisha Scalf; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Debi Scalf of Morristown, TN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Andy Hatcher of Louisville, TN, Anita and Rick Tipton of Friendsville, TN; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank "Buzz" Trexler officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to either the Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church of Morristown, TN or the Northern Virginia Mended Heart Chapter 200. Hi, My name is Sharon Dahl. I worked with Tom at HAFB UT, I was very surprised to her of his Passing. I would like to send my sincere heart felt feelings to you his family. I heard of his death from a friend we worked with and she sent me his Obit. I retired in 1984 from heart disease on a medical and lost contact, so Please know My feelings are with you now, he was a great friend and co- worker.
