Send FlowersHAMILTON - Amy Jane Young, age 71, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 12, 1954, in Defiance, Ohio, to Keith and Jane (Kimberly) Weisenburger.
Amy was a 1972 graduate of Defiance High School. She was very proud of her class.
Amy married James A. Young on Feb. 1, 1985, by then Mayor Tom Wiseman, at the home of her parents.
She retired from Ohio State Bureau of Employment Services in April 1993, as a contract specialist.
Amy was a member of Defiance Church of the Nazarene, until she and her husband moved to Hamilton, Indiana.
She loved to work in her yard. Her hobbies were playing Mah Jong and scrap booking. She had made more than 125 scrapbooks, having done more than 10 to each of her grandchildren, for friends, and for the Hamilton Garden Club, where she was a member since 2010. She also loved to play Euchre and read. She will miss her dogs, Janie and Betts.
Surviving her are her husband, James "JR"; three sons, Ron (Misty) Hopson, Aaron (Kelly) Hopson and Joseph (Heather) Young; and four grandchildren, Alex (Regan) Hopson, Konnor Hopson, Mikaylie Young and Hardy Hopson. She also leaves behind her sister, Barbara Leininger, of Dublin, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend of more than 60 years, Becky (Hale) Erford.
Amy was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Suellen Dahlin; and brother-in-law, Scott Leininger.
Amy's visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, from 2-8 p.m., at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson-Roessner Chapel, 1753 S. Clinton St., in Defiance, Ohio.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Defiance Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Don Leonard officiating.
Amy will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
