Deloris Houck Obituary
LAGRANGE - Deloris Elaine (Biddle) Houck, 91, LaGrange, died Thursday, March 7, 2024.
She was born, an identical twin, on May 13, 1932, in Brighton, Indiana, to Otto and Martha (Bowman) Biddle.
She graduated in 1951 from Kendallville High School and worked at Publix Oil Company in Kendallville as a bookkeeper until she married the love of her life, Edwin B. Houck, on Aug.15, 1952, at the First Methodist Church in Kendallville. Edwin preceded her in death in 2018.
For most of her career, Deloris was employed at the LaGrange County Court House, working 33 years in the Surveyor's, Auditor's, and Recorder's offices.
She was a member of the International Twin Association. She enjoyed traveling out west to pan for gold with her husband, gardening, painting, ceramics, and researching and creating multiple books on her family genealogy. First and foremost, she loved her family, spending much time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Verlin (Beverly) Houck of Nappanee; three daughters, Colette (Kevin) Legg Jones of Fort Wayne, Colleen (Jim) Houck Norris of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Vickie (Gary) Fry of Kendallville; 13 grandchildren, Dr. Michelle (Bill) O'Brien, Kimberly Houck, Angela (Matthew) Cook, Ryan Houck, Daniel Houck, Dr. Alan (Karla) Legg, Lisa (Joel) Bregin, Matthew Pettenati, Dustin (MaryByrd) Pettenati, Nicholas (Debi) Pettenati, Nicole (Scott) Sauers, Branden (Amanda) Fry, and Shaun (Amy) Fry; 16 great-grandchildren, Bruce, Robert, and James O'Brien, Madilyn, Jude, Lillian, and Lucas Richardson, Kailey Gurney, Landon, Jenalee, and Mailee Splitt, Blake and Rylie Fry, and Alyssa, Kaitlyn, and Wyatt Fry; and twin sister, Doris Trowbridge of Fort Wayne, sister, Sherry (Lyle) Holman of Waterloo, and sister in-law, Jane Biddle of Avilla.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Eric Legg; a son-in law, Dr. David Legg; two brothers, Gerald Biddle and Robert Biddle; and two sisters, Eileen Cobbs and June Fisher.
Visitation is Wednesday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Kenneth Weaver will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
