PLEASANT LAKE - Gary Lynn Oberlin, 74, of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, died at home on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
He was born Nov. 6, 1950, to MacLynn and Patsy (Rohleder) Oberlin of Hamilton, Indiana. His father survives at Ball Lake.
He married Lee Ann Buell on Aug. 15, 1969, in Hamilton. They had two daughters.
Gary attended Hamilton High School and played basketball.
He worked at Edon Farmer's Co-op, retiring in 2019.
He enjoyed farming and working on his property in rural Pleasant Lake. He had many skills, from carpentry to automotive work, and was happy to share them with family and neighbors.
Gary enjoyed the simple things in life - walking in the woods, driving tractors, hunting, fishing, and tending a vegetable garden. He had large, luscious strawberry beds. For many years, he grew pumpkins and gourds, harvesting wagon loads to share. He planted hundreds of trees.
For many years, he took his family on vacation every summer. In the early years, family vacations were in Canada. Later, he found a love for Petoskey State Park in Michigan, and they camped at various other sites in Michigan, and beyond as well.
After retirement, he single-handedly built an addition to his barn and enjoyed doing projects and spending time in it. Every morning, he walked to his father's house to visit.
Gary had a heart of gold and never hesitated to help family and friends. He was a gentle, kind, generous man.
He is survived by his father; his wife; his daughter, Amy Oberlin; a granddaughter, PaigeAnn Puthoff; three brothers, Steven (Cindi) Oberlin, of Angola, Neal (Kris) Oberlin and Randy (Terri) Oberlin, both of Hamilton; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and a daughter, Katie Oberlin.
