Jack L. Schwartz Sr., 76, of Butler, passed away peacefully at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Jack was born July 12, 1942, at the Souder Hospital in Auburn, the son of Albert C. and Marie (Rowe) Schwartz; they preceded him in death.
He married Ruth A. (Curry) Schwartz at the Chapel in the Garden in Angola on July 16, 1960, and she survives in Butler.
Jack retired from Universal Tool & Stamping, Butler, in 2005 after 45 years of service. He was a true "Jack" of all trades, performing many jobs over the years, including assembly, forklift operator, semi-truck driver, quality inspector and tool & die repair. He was a hard worker and instilled those values in his children.
Jack enjoyed camping, collecting Wheel Horse garden tractors, mowing grass, plowing snow, watching NASCAR and Winged Outlaw Sprint racing. He liked to help other people. Over the years he had many hobbies that included model car building, RC car racing and making lawn ornaments out of various materials. He enjoyed listening to old country music.
Jack is survived by his children, Jack Schwartz Jr., of Auburn, Jennifer (Eric) Grobis of Auburn, and Jason (Grechet) Schwartz of Edon, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Ralph) Reese, Erica Grobis, Derrek, Taylor, Brooke, Kenji, Miranda and Amanda Schwartz, and Brenda Harrington; two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Wade Beard; a brother, Richard Schwartz of Butler; two sisters, Susan (Harlow) Meek and Linda Steinman, both of Auburn; his dog and best buddy, Button; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack's wishes were that there be no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to DeKalb Humane Society, where he adopted his little buddy.
