ALBION - Jo Ann Hammel, 87, of Goshen, Indiana, formerly of Albion, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, at Majestic Care in Goshen.
She was born on June 28, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a daughter of Robert Knight and Anna (Amones) McNett.
On June 20, 1959, at Brimfield United Methodist Church, she married Harold Hammel. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2013.
Jo was employed by Lyall Electric for many years, retiring in 1996. She also was a medic with Noble County EMS, working EMS 6 based in Albion. The job that gave her the most joy, however, was working at Dairy Queen in Albion.
In her free time, Jo enjoyed IU Basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and spending time with her grandkids. Her favorite hobby was without a doubt playing bingo.
Survivors include her daughter, Jenny (Kevin) Miller, of New Paris; sons, Todd (Jennifer) Hammel, of Howe and Mark Hammel, of Kentucky; grandchildren, Ashlee (Josiah) Hawkins, Ethan Miller, Austin (Bryanna) Hammel, Brooke (Dylan) Reese, Amanda (Jake) Rigelman, Brandon Meadows, and Kirsty (Zach) Gillispie; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Georgeann (Leonard) Dodge, Michelle (Tony) Esquer, Barbara Erickson, and Gretchen (Jerry) Kunburger; and brother, Gary (Dianne) Knight.
In addition to her husband, Jo was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Kathleen Buckles.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at Orange Township Cemetery, 8200 N. C.R. 175E, Wawaka, Indiana.
A visitation will also be held on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m., at Harper Funeral Homes, Albion Chapel, 771 Trail Ridge Road, Albion.
