John Harvey Obituary

AUBURN — John C. Harvey, MD, passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2018, surrounded by his family.
He was born July 6, 1930, in Danville, Indiana, to Amos and Mildred (Christie) Harvey.
He attended Earlham College for two years before joining the Air Force in 1952. He served three years, earning the rank of 1st Lieutenant. While stationed at McGuire Air Force base in New Jersey, he met the love of his life, Ruth. They were married in New Jersey on May 1, 1954.
After being discharged, he finished his undergraduate degree at Earlham and went on to IU Medical School, graduating in 1960. He did a pediatric fellowship at the Akron, Ohio, Children's Hospital, and in 1962 moved to Auburn and started his medical practice.
After almost 40 years of practice, he retired, and he and Ruth enjoyed several years of travel and friendship with the Great Lakes GMC Club, as well as fishing and camping whenever they could. He enjoyed IU football and basketball, and planned his week around the games.
After Ruth's passing, he enjoyed daily lunches with good friends, as well as the occasional happy hour at the Elks.
He was a member of the IU Alumni Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, Elks Club, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge/Flying Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 2008.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Quaintance (Richard) of Chicago; sister-in-law, Beverly Wells of Auburn; children Christie Krieger (Dan) of Batesville, Indiana, Shelley Burns (David) of Bloomington, Indiana, Mary Beth Swiger (Dean) of Troy, Montana, and Adam Harvey (Beth) of Danville, Indiana; grandchildren Alex Burns, Leslie Sommer (Adam), Sam Burns (Stephany), McKenzie Burns, Allison Krieger, John Krieger, Aaron Jones (Valerie), Elizabeth Harvey and Nathaniel Harvey; great-grandchild Shirley Sommer, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and doctor to many. He will be missed, but we're happy he's reunited with Mom.
A visitation will be held at Feller & Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2018, from noon to 4 p.m. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DeKalb County Humane Society or the Shriner's Children's Hospital.

So sorry to hear John passed, but glad he can be with Ruth. John was my doctor, my friend, our neighbor, my mentor and colleague!
He delivered our three boys, made house calls when I was sick as a child. He was one of a kind. He will be so missed! Deb (Short) and Jack Close, Sr. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
