ANGOLA - Joyce Walston-Whitlock, 89, of Angola, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, her home.
The daughter of Leonard E. and Julia F. (Smith) Olaynick Sr., she was born on Sept. 2, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan.
Joyce lived a long and meaningful life, marked by her love of family and a zest for life. She loved animals, books, traveling, her farm and WWE Wrestling.
Joyce was the volunteer librarian for Steuben County Council on Aging for 26 years and she loved her fellow members of the Angola Christian Church.
Joyce worked as a legal secretary for Federal Mogul before relocating to Angola with her husband to become a farm wife and co-owner of a candy store called the Yum Yum Shoppe.
She married Robert W. Walston on June 6, 1959, and together they shared 49 years of marriage.
Surviving are her two children, Timothy R. Walston, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Shannon E. Walston, of Angola, Indiana; and eight grandchildren, Tristen Angus, Elizabeth Angus, Logan Angus, Brady Perry, Taylor Perry, Seth Angus, Ian Angus and Landon Angus. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Debbie Sanders, Richard Walston, Patty Henderson, Peggy Warner, Dan Walston and Dee Walston; and cousins, Julie Prinz and Arlene Tippens.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert W. Walston and Morris Whitlock; and brother, Leonard "Doc" E. Olaynick Jr.
To honor her request, private services will be held.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
