Mavis Hicks Obituary

CORUNNA — Mavis Hicks, 71, of Corunna, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at DeKalb Health hospital in Auburn.
She was born July 3, 1945, in Big Springs, Kentucky, to the late James M. Farley and Mintie (Hicks) Farley. She married Chester L. "Sonny" Hicks on April 28, 1973, in Edgerton, Ohio. Sonny preceded her in death November 19, 2014. Mavis was employed with Federal Mogel in Avilla for 17 years.
Survivors include five daughters, Maglenda and Roy Conley of Mousie, Kentucky, Karenda and Jackie Slone of Hollybush, Kentucky, Belinda and Michael Siler of Vandalia, Ohio, Clydia and Brad Renkenberger of Avilla and Bertha and Stan Shipe of Ashley; two sons, Kennessee Hicks of Corunna and Aaron and Karen Hicks of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters Sylvia Patton, Alice Wicker, Jim Farley, Lillie Slone, Billie Snyder, Tommy Farley and Christine Ely.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sonny; son Johny Thornsberry; grandson Kyle Slone; sisters Dorthula "Poody" Spurlock, Carol Jean Orick; and brothers Farrol "Sonny" Farley, Harold "Buddy" Farley, Elmer "Milt" Farley, Larry Farley and Jackie Farley.
Visitation will be held today from 3-6 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church near Kendallville. There will be a service beginning at 6 p.m. Rev. Shawn Shepherd and Rev. Ron Bell will conduct the service.
Funeral services will take place Monday at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Hindman, Kentucky, with burial at Chaffin's Cemetery at Four Mile, Kentucky.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hite Funeral Home of Kendallville.
