Raymond Hixson Obituary

Raymond Hixson

GARRETT - Raymond "Ray" Aaron Hixson, age 82, of Garrett, Indiana, passed away peacefully in hospice care in Kendallville on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, and now is with his beautiful wife, Joan in heaven.

Ray was born on May 11, 1943, to James "Myles" and Phyllis (Smith) Hixson.

He met the love of his life in high school and married Joan (Moran) on March 14, 1962.

He graduated from Garrett High School in May 1962, and went to work full time with his father and brothers at their family business, Hixson Sand & Gravel. He could run any equipment they needed, but especially loved running a dragline crane. He was featured in a series C Cabless Payloader magazine in 1964. He loved working at the gravel pit and worked until he was 80. He worked seven days a week, always taking his kids along to have fun on the sand piles.

Ray loved to mushroom hunt, fish, watch old Western shows, listen to '60s music, especially Elvis, play cards, and family gatherings. He loved a good laugh, and loved playing with his four grandsons and taking them on golf cart rides to playgrounds to have fun, but must of all he loved being with his wife, Joan. They did everything together and enjoyed eating out and countryside drives. They were married 58 1/2 years before her death. Ray loved to talk and knew no stranger. Ray will be truly missed.

Surviving are his four children, James Hixson, of Garrett, Robin Hixson, of Garrett, Elizabeth and Troy Klink, of Kendallville and Robert and Courtney Hixson, of Garrett; four grandsons, Logan Hixson, of Garrett and Brock, Branson and Barrett Klink, of Kendallville; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jeri Hixson, of Auburn; sister, Norma Fry, of Garrett; sister-in-law, Pat Hixson, of Garrett; brother-in-law, Steve Holle, of Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Joan, in August 2020; her parents, Charles and Anna Moran; his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Gene Brumbaugh and Connie and Howard Clark; brother and best friend, Carl Hixson; brother, Spencer Hixson; sister-in-law, Anna Holle; brother-in-law, Dave Fry; nephew, Timothy Barry; great-niece, Ashli Weikart; and great-nephew, Timothy David Barry.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, from 2-5 p.m., at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., in Auburn.

Additional visitation will be held on Monday morning, one hour prior the funeral service, from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Paul Mowery officiating.

Burial will take place at Cedar Creek Cemetery, Auburn.

Although I only knew Raymond for a very few months he was a very exceptional man.
The stories he shared with me of his family and his life experiences. Amazing.
We did a lot of laughing.
Prayers to the family
I am certain he will be so dearly missed
Thank you for the opportunity
