Sharon Hannes Obituary

AUBURN — Sharon Lynn Hannes was born at home at 5154 Janet Ave., Sylvania, Ohio, on Oct. 11, 1937. Bringing her into this world were her parents, Marie Catherine (Bair) Harroun (12-17-1909 to 04-15-1995) and Durward Wellington Harroun (10-12-1911 to 06-05-2000).
Sharon had four sisters: Rose Marie (Miller) Rau (died 11-14-1998), Charlot Vivian (Miller) Thomas of Utah, and Marguerite Lee (Miller) Alder of Ohio, and Gladys Darlene Harroun (10-27-1942 to 10-28-1942).
Sharon met her husband, John (Jack) Hannes, when she was a senior in high school. As Sharon recalled, "One Saturday night this fellow came to my house in a red Dodge convertible and I never went out in any other car after that." Sharon and Jack were married on March 8, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio. They moved to Auburn, Indiana, in 1966.
Sharon and Jack had three daughters: Lesslie (Bruce) Keeling of Reading, Michigan; Lesa (Stephen) Sofhauser of Cedar Park, Texas; and Catherine (Greg) Vick of Auburn, Indiana.
Both Sharon and Jack needed something different than the church in which they grew up, and their faith did eventually become the center of their lives. In September of 1981, Sharon had a benign tumor in the right atrium of her heart. She went into surgery on a Monday morning and did not wake up for two weeks. It was after this surgery that Sharon noticed Jack doing things that were out of character for him. He was suddenly talking with men about whom he had joked; men who were Christians. One day Jack said to Sharon, "I have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior and you are going to do this too." Sharon told Jack she didn't have the faintest idea what he was talking about. She knew this was not something Jack could tell her she was going to do. God had other plans and in the spring of 1982, Sharon did accept Christ as her savior. This was a life changing event for her and her family. Jack went to be with the Lord on October 26, 1987.
In 1996, Sharon graduated from Saint Francis College with a degree in social work. She enjoyed a satisfying career as a case manager with Aging and In Home Services, retiring in 2005.
Sharon was blessed with nine grandchildren: Daniel (Stephanie) Tuttle, Adam (Nicole) Baird, Angela (Nick) Nastase, Austen Sofhauser, Sara (Gustavo) Calderon, Elliott Sofhauser, Matthew (Ashley) Tuttle, Kevin (Ann) Vick, and Kerry Vick; and 11 great-grandchildren: Aleix Locke, Chandler Locke, Cortland Dietrich, Cole Tuttle, Emmi Nastase, Nate Nastase, Kayliana Butler, Reese Butler, Kelsea Vick, James Vick, and Sawyer Baird, due to arrive March 21, 2016. Also surviving are three brothers-in-law: Fred (Sharon) Hannes of Plano, Texas, Jim Kent of Naples, Florida, and Bob (Marguerite) Alder of Toledo, Ohio.
Another important presence in Sharon's life was her sister-in-Christ, Waneta Nelson.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center St., Auburn, Indiana. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday April 2nd prior to the service at the funeral home.
