AUBURN - Spencer Michael Penland, 28, of Auburn, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday Oct. 1, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1997, in Fort Wayne to Michael R. and Sabine (Florreich) Penland.
To his parents he was a Hero, Teacher, Special Gift and the Light of their lives. He was busy with musical therapy, behavioral therapy and attended Benchmark Family Services in Fort Wayne.
Spencer loved his Disney and Pixar videos, songs and shows. He helped with their chickens and his favorite song to sing was Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. He loved taking walks with mom and dad and the many rides on the golf cart, singing as they went down the road.
He is survived by his parents, Mike and Sabine Penland, of Auburn; aunts and uncles, Tom Florreich, of Kendallville, Jeff and Jeanne Penland, of Waterloo, Eric and Cindy Penland, of New Albany, Barry and Misheila Penland, of Auburn and Deb Penland, of Auburn; cousins, Thomas Baugher, Jamie McKean, Kristy Dibble, Craig Penland, Zachary Penland, Kevin Penland, Jason Penland, Stacy Tatman, Jessica Penland, Bruce Wilson and Al Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard and Ann Penland and Rudi and Christa Florreich; and an uncle, Denny Penland.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1098 C.R. 39, Waterloo, IN 46793, with burial to follow the service at St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling is on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, from 4-7 p.m., at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, Indiana, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.
Additional calling will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, from 10-11 a.m.
The family asks that any memorial gifts given in memory of Spencer, be in care of Ronald McDonald House, 435 Limestone St., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
