Cheri Lynn Shepard (née Ramsey), 66, of Stewartsville, MO, passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2025. She was born September 3rd, 1958, in Leavenworth, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Ramsey; her brothers David Ramsey, Dennis Ramsey (Lora), and Donald Ramsey; and her brother-in-law, Martin Hamm.
Cheri is survived by her husband, Jeffery; her sons, Jimmie Hoover and Billie Hoover (Michele); and their father, Jim Hoover; grandchildren Jake Hoover and Luke Hoover; siblings Danny Shepard (Mary Lynn), Christie Elliott (Donald), Candi Hamm, and Rhonda Petrarca (Rick); sister-in-laws Friday Ramsey and Debbie Ramsey; stepsons Eric Shepard (Tracy), Justin Shepard, and Jared Shepard (Rose).
She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, listed by age: Kim Kling (Mark), Brandon Willis (Amanda), Donnie Elliott, Kellie Elliott, Carra Roth (Randy), Tim Ramsey, Andrew Hamm, Jeremiah Hamm (Leslie), Evan Ramsey (Caitlin), Aaron Ramsey, and Josh Ramsey; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Cheri spent 15 years employed at the John B. Stetson Hat Company in St. Joseph, Missouri. During her time there, she helped construct many thousands of hats-including some famously worn by former president George W. Bush and country music icon Garth Brooks. When the factory relocated to Texas in the early 2000s, she never quite forgave the Lone Star State for stealing her beloved job site; her grudge was good-natured but enduring.
Cheri later worked at Menards in South Saint Joseph, where she maintained friendships with dozens of her colleagues after retiring.
Her first passion in life was playing softball, where she was an outstanding all-around player for Grain Exchange team . Cheri loved horses, dogs, fishing, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Saint Louis Cardinals. Every Saturday night, you would find her at the Speedway, cheering as her son and grandson raced stock cars. She was a jack-of-all-trades-the one you called if you needed help changing your oil or fixing anything in your home.
