Susan Blunt Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Blunt on September 16, 2025. Sue was born on February 9, 1951, to Richard and Wilma Lumsdon in Ottumwa, Iowa. She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1969 and attended Ottumwa Heights Junior College. After extensive training in the travel industry, she lived and worked in Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas, and ended up with Braniff/TWA in Kansas City. Sue Loved her family, her church, her gardens, and antiques. She was a devoted "pet mama" to many dogs and cats. In the spring, Sue and her sister Liz loved to go "nursery hopping", when they would buy more flowers than they could ever plant. They also enjoyed taking their parents to Lackawanna ship reunions, a gathering of the men who served on that ship in World War two. For many years, the girls took their mother to the annual reunions after their father could no longer go. Sue Loved to spend her days outdoors and her lawns and gardens were the pride of Blackhawk Street. She took several trips each year to antique shows and shops all over the country and she always came home with a car full of purchases. She was so happy to work at Missouri Bluffs where she had many close friends and satisfied customers. Sue will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a wonderful wife and friend, sister and aunt, neighbor and co-worker and she was so much fun to spend time with. She cherished her church family at the Weston United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the congregation. Sue is survived by her husband Doug, her sister Liz, her niece Rachel and family, her nephew Joe and sister-in-law Debbie and nephew Clark and family. Services will be held at Vaughn Funeral Home on September 22, 2025, with visitation at 10am and services at 11am. Interment will be at the Laurel Hills Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Weston United Methodist Church, 533 Main St., Weston MO 64098 or the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1901 West second street, Ottumwa, Iowa 52501. I am so sad I won't be there for Sue's service because I will be out of town. Susie (as I called her for close to 40 years of friendship) was the kindest, funniest and most genuine person I know. She always offered a smile that somehow made your day better. Condolences to her family. May your memories of wonderful times shared bring you peace through these sad days.
