Gene Johnson Obituary
Gene Olaf Johnson, 85, of Charles City, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his children Monday, November 3, 2025, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral service for Gene Johnson will be held at 11 am Monday, November 10, 2025, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Sister Diana Blong officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am to the start of the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Gene was born August 27,1940 to Lawrence & Kathryn (Fods) Johnson in Charles City. He attended Greenwood Country School in Nashua and completed his education at Nashua Schools.
Gene married the love of his life, Christina "Chris" Emerson on November 26, 1966, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. He worked as a GM mechanic at Bissonnette's Chevrolet until they closed, drove semi for Anthony Bill Trucking until retirement, and hauled grain for Dennis Brinkman to stay busy after the passing of his beloved wife, Chris. Gene also served in the Floyd County Sheriff's Reserves under Sheriff L.L. Lane for many years.
Gene's hobbies centered around the outdoors. He hunted pheasant and turkey, and he enjoyed fishing and camping as a family when his children were young. Gene relished spending time with his wife Chris most of all, but he was also proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he never missed an opportunity to talk about them.
Gene is survived by his four children: Gina Meyer of Phoenix, AZ, Lon (Sarah) Johnson of Thornton, IA, Dawne (Brad) Bilharz, and Jacqueline Johnson, all of Charles City; grandchildren: Cody (Genevieve) Johnson, Nicholas Meyer, Tyler Johnson, Christopher Meyer, Lea Johnson, Cassidy (Thomas) Nairn, Kortney Meyer, Emilee Bilharz, Dylan Bilharz, Zyanna Jindra, and Zacarah Jindra; great-grandchildren: Lincoln & Atlas Meyer, Iyla, Archer & Onyx Nairn and Atley Johnson; his sisters: Alice Clopton of Sedalia, MO, Cynthia Kinney and Shirley Tobin of Charles City; and brother, Lester (MerryLee) Johnson of Rochester, MN.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife Chris; his parents; and brothers-in-law: Charles Kinney, Richard Tobin, and Carl Clopton.
