Marilyn Luverne Hanna

Marilyn Luverne Hanna, 90, of Tama and Toledo, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025 at Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo with Rev. Tom Bower officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. A Memorial Visitation will be held prior to the service on October 7, 2025 from 10-11 AM at the church. Marilyn Luverne (Boom) Hanna, born December 5, 1934, in Valley City, ND to Thomas Boom and Alice Van Bruggen. Marilyn graduated from Dickenson High School, Dickenson, ND, in 1952, then graduated from Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND in 1956 with a BSN in Nursing. Marilyn was voted Homecoming Queen at Jamestown College in 1956. On June 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bruce Hanna in Edgeley, ND. Marilyn and Bruce began their life together in Alexandria, ND where Marilyn began her career as a School Nurse. They moved to Toledo, IA in 1964 where Bruce continued to teach and coach and where Marilyn was school nurse for South Tama County School District for 30 years. Bruce and Marilyn purchased Dick's Restaurant and Granada Lounge, which they operated for 12 years. They were I-Club members and Hawkeye Football Season Ticket holders for nearly 50 years. Marilyn loved her Dutch heritage and traveled to explore Holland in 1990. Upon retirement they spent their winters in McAllen, TX, making friends and playing golf and being "winter Texans" until travel became too difficult. Marilyn loved the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo where she was a member and elder for 50 years. Marilyn was a long-time member of PEO and Tama-Toledo Country Club. She loved her close friends, sharing coffee, playing cards and exercise. She was a proud member of the Birthday Club. Marilyn and Bruce were one of the first residents of the new Birkwood senior community. Survivors include three children, Jill Hanna (Bill Harrison) of Des Moines, Brian (Virginia) Hanna of Marion and Keith Hanna of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Laird, Ben and Erik Hanna; one brother, Darryl Boom of Lake Oswego, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bruce Hanna; and one brother, Kenneth Boom. A memorial fund will be established. A donation will be made to Iowa River Hospice in Marilyn's name.
