Stacy Ackerson Obituary
On July 15, 2025, Stacy John Ackerson, 57, entered into the presence of the Lord surrounded by his loving family at his home in Bassett, IA after a brave fight against cancer.
Stacy, the son of Marv and Lorilee Ackerson, was born in Charles City, IA, and lived nearly his entire life in Bassett, IA. His childhood was filled with happiness and adventure, shaped by traditional values, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for family. He often shared stories of his youth and his pony, Dudley. His family's river bottom and woods were his playground, fostering a lifelong love for the outdoors. He found his "church" in nature, where he felt closest to the Lord. Stacy dreamed of building a cabin overlooking the river, living a self-sustainable life shared with friends and family. He never met a stranger and loved connecting with new people and helping others in any way he could. He leaves behind countless friends-both new and lifelong-each one special to him.
Stacy's family had a team in the local Chuckwagon Club for many years. He was a very talented horseman, but professed to hating them, generally calling them "hay burners." Even though he claimed to hate the horses, he loved the people, and lifelong friendships and connections came from that time in his life. An avid outdoorsman, Stacy enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and trapping. In his younger years, he participated in many Pioneer period Rendezvous weekends, often feeling he was born in the wrong century. His favorite movie was *The Mountain Man*. He also loved to travel and experience new things. As life evolved, he found himself drawn to the water, becoming a Pontoon Captain. He made sure to buy the longest pontoon available so he could be with as many friends and family as possible.
Stacy worked in the construction industry, specializing in road and carpentry, for many years. The skills and knowledge he gained served him well as he launched his own businesses as a contractor and in the rental and home inspection industries. He was a true entrepreneur, always seeking ways to improve and create a lasting legacy. For several years, he also worked as a claims adjuster in the crop insurance industry.
Stacy's first marriage, though brief, blessed him with his sons, Devon and Caleb. They were a source of immense joy, pride, and purpose in his life, and he loved them with all his heart as his own.
In 2001, Stacy met his wife, Staci (Roth) Ackerson. Affectionately known as "Boy Stacy and Girl Staci," they built a rich and blessed life together. They were married on July 5, 2008, recently celebrating 17 years of marriage and 24 years of life together. Stacy embraced Staci's children, Elena and Maxwell, as his own, raising them with love and guidance.
During the final months of his life, Stacy embodied incredible strength and maintained a positive outlook. He impressed his Mayo doctors with his resilience and attitude, which he believed extended his time here on earth. He will always be remembered for his warm smile and as a beautiful example of God's love. His only regret in life was that he would leave too soon and miss watching his grandchildren grow up.
Stacy is survived by his loving wife, Staci, his children Devon Ackerson, Caleb (Cheyenne) Ackerson, Elena Ackerson and Maxwell VanderWerf. Grandchildren Arianna, Braxton, Camri, Corah and Cohen. Sister, Michelle (Jim) Lembke, sister-in-law Tami Ackerson. Nieces Megan, Carly (Mike), Hannah and Kelcie (Ty), Nephews Garrett (Tiffany) and Ethan, grand nephew and grand nieces.
Those preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Brett Ackerson and many other friends and family that he missed so much when they all left us too soon.
Stacy did not want a funeral service after his death. His Friendsgiving last December was his wish for a "Living Wake" and was so special for him and his family. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
