Wilfred A. Werning

Wilfred A. Werning, age 87, of Van Horne, Iowa, died Thursday, September 11, 2025 at St. Lukes Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15th at 10:30 AM at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Van Horne, Iowa. Interment will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Newhall. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 14th from 3 to 5 PM at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to St. Andrews Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Wilfred was born on March 30th, 1938 in Newhall, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Emma (Wiese) Werning. Will was baptized on May 1st, 1938 and confirmed on April 6th, 1952 at St. John's Church in Newhall. He attended Central Lutheran and graduated from Newhall High School in 1956. On April 8th, 1960, Wilfred was united in marriage to Doris Fredrickson at Perry, Iowa. Will and Doris operated a grain and livestock farm north of Van Horne. Will enjoyed trout fishing, card games, reading the Bible, and word searches. Will and Doris appreciated spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Will is survived by his loving wife Doris; children Julie (Brad) Hopkins and Dale (Doreen) Werning; six grandchildren Jana (Clint) Sievers, Todd (Deanna) Hopkins, Maren (Darin) Elm, Kevyn (Molly) Werning, Nathan Werning, and Daniel (Ashley) Werning; 9 great grandchildren, 1 due in November, and 4 step-great-grandchildren; Brother Vernon (Tammy) Werning, Sister-in-law Bonnie Werning, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Delbert, Merlin, Charles, Leroy, and Duane, and sisters Lorene Karsten, and Ruth Huedepohl. To plant Memorial Trees in memory of Wilfred A.
