Dean Rinde Sutherland

1938 - 2023

Born October 24, 1938 in Pasadena, California to James S. Sutherland and Margaret Ingeborg Rinde, Dean Rinde Sutherland passed away Sunday, February 5th, 2023 in Liberty Lake, Washington. A 50 plus year resident of Spokane and Liberty Lake, Dean spent the first 32 years of his life in Pasadena. After graduating from Pasadena High School, Dean attended Pasadena City College, where he received an A.S. Degree in Electrical Training. Known as a 'Jack of All Trades' Dean worked in many industries with varied occupations. After serving as a Sheriff in Los Angeles County, Dean came to Spokane and worked for his father at Sutherland Lincoln Mercury and later at Camp Chevrolet. He also managed several restaurants, eventually becoming the owner of the Pickle Barrel restaurant located in North Town Mall. A daily reader of the Bible, Dean was a great man of Christian Faith. Sensitive and caring, Dean was a member of the Fourth Memorial Church for many years and led community Bible Study sessions at his South Hill residence for many years. He loved animals, especially his Arabian horse, "Tia", many dogs over his lifetime, camping and fishing adventures. Dean is survived by three sons Scott R. Sutherland (Tammy), Mark A. Sutherland (Dusti), Tyler D. Sutherland (Heather) and one brother Donald B. Sutherland (Bonnie). Also, six adoring grandchildren; Rachel, Ryan, Reed, Christine, Mathew and Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Sutherland and two wives Carol Beth Claybrook and Ruth Sutherland. The family requests Memorial donations be made to the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) in Spokane Valley, WA.
