Margaret Yorba Obituary
Margaret (Muggs, Muggy) Anna Yorba, 99.8, of Spokane, WA passed away on October 14, 2025.
Margaret Nelson was born on January 4, 1926 in Iron Mountain, MI, to Anna Brodene and Edward Nilsson (changed to Nelson on immigration from Sweden to America). She was the first natural born citizen of the United States in her family. She attended Lewis and Clark and North Central High Schools in Spokane. After her parent's divorce, Margaret had moved with her father to Chicago and then returned to Spokane to live with her mother before leaving school to travel to California with her lifelong friend Joyce Berry, where they worked for multiple restaurants, dime stores, food and manufacturing plants during WWII. While working in a military manufacturing plant, she met her future husband at a house party on his return to the states from active duty on medical leave, they married soon after.
Margaret married George P. Yorba, a disabled Army Veteran, in 1945 and the couple had one child together, Susanne. George passed in 1991 and she and her daughter moved into a larger family home, in which she passed peacefully on hospice services with her daughter by her side. She was a devoted Catholic, deeply involved in church services for most of her life.
Margaret enjoyed all forms of needlework, especially crochet, and made beautiful doilies, Afghans, decorations, and toys for her loved ones. She was an excellent cook but most beloved by her grandchildren for her homemade flour tortillas. Her home and yard were kept immaculate. She was a big fan of old movies and music, loved a good game of bones and dabbled in playing the piano. Her family and friends will always remember her as a positive example of a responsible, clean and productive life, loving wife, mother, grandmother, lover of cats, and a generally fun-loving person who loved to act silly and squeak when happy, which made us all laugh.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Susanne Yorba, of Spokane, WA; her seven grandchildren: Janenne Neumiller, Arnold Thomas (Aimee) Morris, Steven (Stacy) Morris, Melissa (Derrick) Gauthier, George (Diana) Hunt and Anna-Marie Yorba all of Spokane, WA and Daniel (Katie) Morris of Portland Oregon. 16 great-grandchildren, and 3+ great-great grandchildren preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings Ernest (Hill), Mildred (Millie), Ella of Spokane, WA.
Celebration of Life/ Funeral Service is scheduled for 12 noon on November 8, 2025, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church with a reception to follow at the church, followed by a graveside service at Fairmount Memorial Park at 2 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Margaret's life.
