Peter Reedy Obituary
Peter Anthony Reedy, 83, a beloved resident of St. Maries, Idaho, passed away on October 29, 2025, at Kootenai Health.
Peter was born on April 17, 1942, in Oakland, California, to George and Ora Reedy. He grew up in Forestville, California, and later lived with his brother in Astoria, Oregon. He graduated from Astoria High School with the Class of 1961.
After high school, Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years, spending time in Berlin during the construction of the Berlin Wall. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he began a distinguished career with the Sacramento Police Department.
In 1973, while working together, Peter met the love of his life, Sandee Waits. In true Peter fashion, he asked her to lunch by delivering his request on official Police Department letterhead-a gesture that began a lifelong partnership. They married just four months later, and Peter lovingly adopted Sandee's son, Bill.
During his 25-year law enforcement career, Peter served as a police officer, sergeant, homicide detective, and hostage negotiator, receiving training at Quantico. After retiring from the force, he continued to share his expertise for 16 years as an expert witness in hostage negotiations and critical incident management.
In 2003, Peter and Sandee moved to St. Maries, Idaho, a place he cherished for its beauty and outdoor recreation. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bird hunting, but his passion was skiing. Peter was a ski instructor at Silver Mountain and took great pride in being the only person to ski Cassandra Hills from top to bottom. He also competed in ski races and organized the Firefighter Olympics in Lake Tahoe.
Peter will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his deep love of family, and his dedication to service-both to his country and his community. He is survived by his wife Sandee at their home in St. Maries, son Bill Reedy of Roseville, CA, sister Gayle Reedy of California, and 2 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings George Reedy and Michael Reedy. Private Military Honors will be presented to honor him.
