Charles Raymond Hays

1946 - 2021

On Oct. 18, 2021, our Heavenly Father called home one of his children, Charles Raymond Hays. He was born Dec. 7, 1946, in Bloomfield to the late George Vernon "Junior" and Georgetta Jordan Hays. He was an Army Veteran, serving in Okinawa, Japan. He was an employee of Lily Tulip, later Owens Illinois, and now Fuji Seal. He also worked at American Greetings where he retired. In his younger years, he loved to fish, was a die-hard UofL and Muhammad Ali fan, was a terrific pool player, bowler, golfer and card player. His recent favorite pastime was Derby City Gaming.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Vernon Hays.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Catherine Hamilton Hays; three daughters, Ila Jackson, of Bardstown, Vanessa (Josh) Hays-Boblett, of Louisville, Belonda Hays (Eric) Bales, of Bardstown, his grandchildren, Chaqualin "C.J." Jackson, Deja (Tanner) Grace, Chavon Jackson, Charles Jackson, Shaquan Hays, Caleb Bobblett and Jacobi Bobblett; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Thea Grace; three sisters, Ila (Larry) Lydian, Barbara (Gary Harris) Grundy and Mayme Rice, all of Bardstown; his brother, George "Dad-x" (Sharon) Hays, of Bardstown, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home.
