Joseph Carter Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Anthony Carter, 78, of Bardstown, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, at Signature Healthcare at Colonial following a long illness. He was born Oct. 10, 1947, in Louisville to the late Howard Vittitow and Martha Bonnie Greenwell Carter. Joe was a retired employee of General Electric with 36 years of service, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Bardstown Moose Lodge 2408. He enjoyed working on older model cars and small engines.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy House and Joyce Kennedy; two brothers, Jimmy Carter and Jeffrey Carterl and his son-in-law, Perry Metcalf.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Mattingly Carter; two daughters, Melissa Ann Auberry and Mary Christine Metcalf, both of Bardstown; and his brother, Howard Vittitow Carter Jr.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral.
Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
