Dorothy Nelson Obituary

Dorothy (Bishop) Nelson

ONALASKA - Dorothy (Bishop) Nelson of Onalaska, Wisconsin, entered her eternal rest in the comforting hope of her Savior, Jesus Christ on Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2025.

Born in Souderton, Pennsylvania, Dorothy was the youngest of ten children born to John and Margaret Bishop. Growing up in a large and loving family helped shape the generous heart, steadfast spirit, and deep faith that would define her entire life.

In 1958, Dorothy graduated from the Grand View Hospital School of Nursing and also married the love of her life, Ken. She went on to serve as a dedicated and compassionate nurse, offering exceptional care to every patient entrusted to her. Her work was not simply a profession, but a calling - an expression of her devotion to serving others as Christ had taught.

Dorothy's faith was the foundation of her life. A faithful member of Onalaska United Methodist Church, she found joy in worship, fellowship, and living out her belief in God's grace. Her gentle presence, warm smile, and unwavering trust in the Lord touched all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings: Clara, John, Ruth, Frank, Margaret, Edward, Richard, and James.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Kenneth Nelson; her brother Kenneth (Marie) Bishop of Telford, Pennsylvania; her sons Gary Nelson of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Gregory (Heidi) Nelson of Summit, Wisconsin; and her cherished grandchildren Teddy (Corryn) Nelson of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; Allison (Jacob) Fabian of Neillsville, Wisconsin; Lexi Nelson of Onalaska, Wisconsin; and James and Grant Nelson of Summit, Wisconsin. She was blessed with one great-granddaughter, Hunter Fabian of Neillsville, Wisconsin, and she eagerly awaited the arrival of her second great-granddaughter this winter in New Hampshire.

To those who mourn her passing, Dorothy leaves the comforting promise of Scripture:

"My Father's house has many rooms…I am going there to prepare a place for you…that you also may be where I am." - John 14:2–3

"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." - Ephesians 4:32

Dorothy's life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will continue to shine in the lives of those she loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise that she now rests in the everlasting peace of Christ.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on December 13, 2025 at Onalaska United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the service. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
