Esther Elaine (Sisbach) Cook

Esther Elaine Cook (nee Sisbach) Cook, 96, of Viroqua, Wis., passed away October 5, 2025, at Maplewood Terrace Assisted Living. She was born on March 18, 1929, in Viroqua, Wis., to William and Bessie (Sommerfield) Sisbach.

Esther attended Belgium Ridge School and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1947. She continued her education at Madison General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950 with an R.N. degree. She worked at Vernon Memorial Hospital as a surgical nurse.

She married Wayne Cook on August 10, 1952. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, gardening, playing bridge, and being with her family.

Esther is survived by her children: Barbara (Michael) Leis of Viroqua, Susan (David) Schreiner of La Crosse, and Joan (Carl) Lind of Onalaska; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Cook of Wauwatosa, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Connie) Leis of Slinger, Wis., Michelle (Greg) Feucht of Fond du Lac, Wis., Adam Schreiner of Eau Claire, Wis., Dr. Allison Schreiner, D.V.M. of De Forest, Wis., Andrew Schreiner of Middleton, Wis., Maria (Ian) Clévy of Strasbourg, France, Breanna (Eric) Zhang of Squamish, B.C., Canada, and Craig Lind of Sussex, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren, Sydney and Aubree Leis, Austin and Alex Feucht, Abigail and Michael Clévy, and Elizabeth and Ryan Zhang.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; son, Paul; sister and brother-in-law, Laurean and Fredrick Walby; and nephew, Martin Walby.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Viroqua. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to the time of the service. Burial followed in the Viroqua Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
