Eunice M. O'Connor

Eunice M. O'Connor, 96, of La Crosse passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Benedictine Living Community. She was born April 1, 1924, in Iowa City, Iowa, to William and Libby (Swab) Parizek. Eunice graduated from Iowa City High School and attended business college in Iowa City. Her great adventure as a young woman was riding her bicycle across Iowa with a friend.

Eunice married John B. O'Connor, in Iowa City, in 1948. They started their family on a farm in Lone Tree, Iowa. In 1956, they moved to Coralville, Iowa, where John operated O'Connor Insurance, until 1961, when he became a district director for Federal Crop Insurance. As John's career advanced to senior marketing advisor, Eunice and John lived in Des Moines, Iowa, Annandale, Va., and Overland Park, Kan. Upon retirement in 1986, they moved to La Crosse.

Eunice was a devoted mother and wife, who loved people and stayed active in helping others. After John passed away in 1994, she volunteered at Blessed Sacrament Parish funeral luncheons and rummage sales. She also enjoyed her bunco club and the many friends she had in La Crosse. Eunice will be dearly missed.

Eunice is survived by three sons, William O'Connor (Janis Hanson) of La Crosse, Patrick O'Connor (Stephanie Allen) of Tulsa, Okla., and Thomas O'Connor (Sofia) of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Casey Friedl (Frank) of Stuttgart, Germany, Jaclyn O'Connor of Las Vegas, and Adam O'Connor of La Crosse; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Hayes and Avery Hayes of Appleton, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Eldon Parizek and Vernon Parizek; and her granddaughter, Kelly Hayes (Ryan).

The family offers special thanks to the caregivers at the Benedictine Skilled Nursing Facility in La Crosse.

Private family services were held. Memorials and donations in Eunice's name may be sent to the Blessed Sacrament Parish in La Crosse. Online condolences may be shared at www.schumacher-kish.com.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. I don’t ever remember meeting her, but I sure have a lot of memories living on Center Street in Iowa City. It was because of their investment that allowed us to come together and enjoy those moments and create lasting friendships.

Bill, Pat and Tom...I was so sad to see that you mother, my Aunt Eunice had passed. The three of you were the joy of her life. We shared notes with each other at Christmastime. She was Dad's little sister, and during his life he shared many fond memories he had with her. Being at Grandma Parizek's was a special place to be for each of us, in looking back in time. While growing up, I always looked forward to having our families get together over the holidays for games and playing cards. Your mom offered me love and kindness, especially when my mother was so sick, despite where she was living. She will be miss. What a long, wonderful life she had. Healing blessings your way

My Coralville Condolences to the O'Connor Family. Your Mom, Eunice has passed away. So sorry. She KEPT the boys in 'line', and that was a full time job. SHE was the one who got you to ball games, practice, school, events, on time and in good 'orderly conduct'. My Mom and Eunice were good friends. So sorry to learn of her passing, but she lived a good, long, life, and will be greatly missed.
