Leah Marlene Mathy
May 20, 1936 - November 13, 2025
Leah Marlene Mathy died peacefully surrounded by family on November 13, 2025. She was born May 20, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio, to Ida and W. Frohman Kupferschmid. Leah married her high school sweetheart, Charles, on April 26, 1958.
Leah was a graduate of Central High School and University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a lifelong member of St John's Church. Contributing to her community through board work with Chileda, Riverfront, Viterbo University, and numerous volunteer opportunities gave her purpose and pride.
Leah's greatest joy was her family. She was the silent support and foundation for her husband and family business. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering. She was their biggest cheerleader and supporter with whatever life brought. She could be seen watching basketball, football, soccer games, swim meets, being the winery baker as well as teaching her Swiss heritage to the family. She carried her cheerleading to her grandchildren making many memories of silly walks, soccer games, horse shows and ski meets.
She is survived by her sons Steven (Lee' Ann) Mathy and Scott (Gretchen) Mathy of La Crosse, and her daughter Debra Mathy of Geyserville, Calif.; grandchildren William (Amy) Mathy, and Taylor (Luke) Sauerman of La Crosse, Christopher (Olivia) Mathy of Onalaska, Tanner ( Clara) Mathy of Afton, Minn., and Makena Mathy of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren Charlie, Grace, Winston and Abe Mathy of La Crosse, Lee and Tatum Sauerman of La Crosse, Margot Mathy of Onalaska; brother George (Net) Kupferschmid of Perham, Minn., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and her parents.
The family would like to express our gratitude and thanks to her caregivers, doctors and hospice team that took outstanding care of her.
Private family services are being held. Memorials may be given to the Charles F. and Leah Mathy Fund in care of the La Crosse Community Foundation, 300 2nd St. N, La Crosse. Dickinson Family Funeral Home of La Crosse is assisting the family.
