Marlene G. Sloniker
October 25, 1934 - February 15, 2025
Marlene G. Sloniker, 90, of Janesville, formerly of Orfordville, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born October 25, 1934, in Viroqua, Wis. to the late Jorgen and Carol R. (Smith) Anderson. On August 9, 1958, she married Malcolm 'Mac' L. Sloniker, in Readstown, Wis. He would precede her in death on August 28, 2012.
Marlene spent her career teaching elementary and middle school, starting in a one room schoolhouse in Beloit and later substituting in Parkview, Beloit, and Brodhead. She was a member of Roxbury Church of Christ where she was a prayer warrior, nursery worker, Junior Church leader and supporter of missionaries. Marlene loved walking every day in Janesville and enjoyed hiking in Colorado and Black River Falls, and traveling with family with her last destinations being London, Scotland, S. Africa, Alaska, and Israel. She also was a Plymouth 4-H Foods and cake decorating leader, quilter, seamstress, expert gardener, making communion bread, lefse, apple dumplings, cookies, and pies.
Marlene was an inspirational person who was engaging and a fantastic listener. She enjoyed reading, journaling, and scrapbooking, watching Hallmark movies and the Green Bay Packers, being the treasurer of her Condo Association up until the last few weeks. But most of all, she loved her family, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, friends and neighbors.
Marlene is survived by her five children, Mary Ann (Vic) Miller, of St. Charles, Mo., Melinda (Dan) Lathrop, of Janesville, Mike (Barbara) Sloniker, of Sioux City, Iowa, Matthew (Wendy) Sloniker, of New Berlin, Wis., and Mark (Kyle Alexander) Sloniker, of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Neil Miller, Brook (Josh) Raye, Leah Kirsten, Maria (Dan) Johnson, Jason Sloniker, Devin Lathrop, Julia Austin-Lathrop, Johnathan Lathrop, and Dayveon Lathrop; three great-grandchildren, Noel, Kennedy, and Jordan; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Myron Sloniker; granddaughter, Promis Lathrop; and brother, Jerry Anderson.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, 21 S. Austin Rd., Janesville. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the FUNERAL HOME.
