Maxine (Haberman) Luft
LA CRESCENT, Minn. -- Maxine A. Luft, 98, of La Crescent passed away peacefully with family by her side Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born in Jackson, Minn., Aug. 3, 1922, to Louise and Alfred Haberman. She married Edwin "Ned" Luft, Nov. 26, 1946, in Dundee, Minn. They moved from western Minnesota to eastern Minnesota, Caledonia, when Ned began working at his lifelong profession as electrician. They were blessed with five children, four boys and one girl.
Maxine was a very devoted member of Crucifixion Catholic Church in La Crescent. She protested but was clearly pleased that Fr. Evans sometimes embarrassed her by pointing her out during Mass. For 28 years, she worked as a cook for the Crucifixion Catholic School. She touched many young lives during that time.
She is survived by her children, Debra (Steve) Oliver of La Crescent, Tim (Jan) Luft of Holmen, Rick (Cindy) Luft of Eau Claire, Wis., Tom Luft of Sarasota, Fla., and Roger (Mary) Luft of Eau Claire; 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Corey, Debbie, Christopher, Jason, Amanda, Brandon, Nicole, Andrew and Alex; 10 great-grandchildren, Kevin Jr., Anthony, Christian, Bryce, Evan, Jaxen, Emerson, Greyson, Emmitt and Franklin; along with two sisters, Mary Anne Leopold and Marilyn Rogers.
Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; three brothers, Fr. Clayton Haberman, Marvin Haberman and Claire Haberman; four sisters, Edna Haberman, LaVerna Schaffer, Helene Miranowski and Betty Shea.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at The Church of The Crucifixion in La Crescent. The Rev. John L. Evans, II will officiate. Private family burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Due to covid-19, those wishing to attend are required to pre-register with Crucifixion Catholic Church by phone at 507-895-4720 or at their website www.crucifixionschool.org. Masks and social distancing will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crucifixion Catholic Church or School. Online guestbook may be signed and condolences left at www.schumacher-kish.com.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of your special mother. I have many happy memories of times our families spent together when we were growing up. She is joining her parents, sisters and brothers and husband but she will be missed by all those here who loved her. God bless you all at this time. ,Love you- cousin Mary Lou
