Paul Onsrud

Paul Onsrud passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021. He was born Oct. 29, 1931, to Alice (Espenes) and Paul Onsrud.

A watchmaker by trade, Paul and his father owned Paul's Jewelry Store on Caledonia street. Later this was sold to Mark Doolittle, and Paul moved across the street to operate Paul's Shaver Service and Flex-O-Matic Products.

Although a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, being baptized and confirmed there, he married Judith Ulrich Aug. 19, 1961, in her church, Bethel Lutheran.

Hobbies were an important part of Paul's personality and life. Fishing and boating were summer fun. Winters were for skiing. While serving in the Army during the Korean War, Paul was chosen to be a member of the U.S. Army Ski Team. He medaled in competition in Germany. Joining a local club, he took flying lessons and became a pilot. He liked to tinker with old cars, especially Crosleys. An interest in antique engines and his Norwegian heritage led Paul and a friend to design and build the Snoose airplane. The hit and miss engine made the wings flap up and down and proved to be an attraction in many area parades and festivals. A motorcycle phase led to several memorable trips with friends. Later life activities centered around an Ettrick farm. Paul's favorite times were spent riding on an ATV to check out the farm.

Paul is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Paula (Brad) Hanan, of St. Charles, Mo.; son-in-law, Steve Perry of Green Bay, Wis.; and five grandchildren, Julia and Adam Hanan, Katherine, Samantha, and Alexander Perry.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth.

The family plans a memorial service to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Gundersen Medical Foundation or the Salvation Army.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.dickinsonfuneralhomes.com.
