HAROLD BUFFINTON "BUFF" CROSSLEY Sr.

HAROLD CROSSLEY Obituary

Beloved husband and father, a resident of Tarzana, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2010, following a short illness. He was happily married to his loving wife of 67 years, A. Lucille Hathaway Crossley. He is also survived by his children, H. Buffinton Crossley, Jr., Cheryl Crossley Simmons, Diane C. Balt, and Christine C. Cotat gis; 14 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Born in 1925 in Fall River, MA, Buff was the last surviving child of former Bristol County District Attorney William C. Crossley, Sr., and Truesdale nurse Martha Smith Crossley. He was the brother to twin sisters, Marion C. Lawton and Marjorie Crossley-Hood Lofquist; and brothers, William C. Crossley, Jr., and Robert C. Crossley, Sr. He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and Cheshire Academy in CT, where he graduated in 1943. He deferred his acceptance to Harvard College, like so many of his generation, to enlist in the United States Navy and married his childhood sweetheart. He proudly served during WWII from 1943 - 1946 being honorably discharged. He then attended Harvard, graduating in 1949, a year ahead of his Class of 1950. He, his wife and four children headed to Washington DC where he joined the Central Intelligence Agency. His career path later included several insurance companies in Virginia, Boston, New York C ity and Los Angeles, where he was transferred by New York Life in 1954. He changed his career path to political public relations and print journalism, and served as press secretary and aide to Los Angeles City Council Representatives, CA State Assembly Representatives and State Senators from 1960 - 1990. He was active in the F&A Masons, Van Nuys Lodge #450, the Shriners and the Harvard Club of Southern California. An accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, he also served as past pre sident of the San Fernando Valley Public Relations Roundtable, and active member of the Los Angeles Press Club. He retired in 1990. Buff is remembered especially for his deep and abiding love for his wife and his love and encouragement to his children. "We are very proud of you. We love you and always will," he stated to them often, and he reminded them of this Biblical proscription, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 28, 2010, 1:00 p.m., at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth. LORENZEN MORTUARY Reseda Directors (818) 343-4677
