Jean Golden Obituary
JEAN ELIZABETH GOLDEN Age 79, of Moorpark, California, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2 003. A 47 year resident of Moorpark, she was being lovingly cared for by her family and Hospice of Camarillo when she succumbed to cancer in her Moorpark home. Jean was born October 6, 1923 in Madison, Wisconsin. She grew up in Rockford, Illinois and attended Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. During WWII, Jean worked as a volunteer Red Cross trained nurse helping to meet the need for extra nurses due to the war effort. In a beautiful candlelight ceremony she was awarded her cap after 100 hours of se rvice. In 1947 she married her sweetheart from Rockford High School, Darl Richard Golden. They began raising their young family in Houghton, Michigan, where Darl attended Michigan Tech. Jean loved the deep snow drifts and brilliant fall colors of the upper peninsula. Jean and Darl then designed and built a beautiful home in Rockford where they raised their family until a job promotion brought them to California in 1957. They made Moorpark their home. Jean immediately became active in the Moorpark Community Methodist Church, Jaycettes and the Moorpark Women's Fortnightly Club. At the time of her death, Jean was the Fortnightly Club's most long standing member and both she and her mother, Ruth Gassmann, were lifetime members of the Federated Women's Clubs of America. Together they also shared many years of service in the United Methodist Women club. Jean had also been active in the Moorpark Center of Arts from it's inception. Jean's life was dedicated to family, church and community service. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Darl Golden; her parents, Walter C. and Ruth A. Gassmann; and her brother, Charles W. Gassmann. She is survived by her children, Paula Jean Lake of Moorpark, Dr. Carol Golden-Wilkins of Moorpark, Richard Golden of Thousand Oaks, Ronald Golden of Moorpark; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Valerie Lake, William Wilkins, Heather, Lee, Dale and Crystal Golden. A Memorial Service will be held at Moorpark Community Methodist Church, 10:00 a.m., o n Wednesday, May 7, 2003.
