Mark Berman Obituary

Prominent surgeon, researcher, author, world renowned stem cell treatment pioneer, visionary leader in the regenerative medical community, mentor, husband, father, and friend. Mark obtained his undergraduate degree from University of California, Los Angeles, before training to be a physician at Chicago Medical School. He excelled during his residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Loma Linda University, where he trained as an ENT surgeon. For more than three decades, Mark practiced cosmetic surgery in Beverly Hills and was active in the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, where served in various leadership positions, culminating in service as president in 2010. It was through cosmetic surgery that Mark first learned about certain adipose tissue (fat) transfer techniques, which led to Mark's groundbreaking application of these surgical techniques to non-cosmetic applications. A true renaissance man, Mark invented medical devices, constantly innovated new surgical techniques, and was instrumental in optimizing the isolation of stem cells using techniques that are now used in operating rooms all over the world. He co-founded California Stem Cell Treatment Center in 2010 followed by the creation of Cell Surgical Network, a highly respected international clinical research collaboration dedicated to utilizing a person's own stem cells to mitigate trauma, disease, and degenerative conditions. The surgical treatments innovated by Mark and his medical team have been used safely to treat over 15,000 patients in the US alone since 2010 and Mark remained dedicated and steadfast in his commitment to healing sick patients under any conditions and teaching other doctors to do the same. Mark's extensive and anonymous free charitable donations of his medical services, provided to veterans in particular, are just now coming to light. Since 2010, Mark worked day and night to advocate for his patients and create a world where all individuals have full access to their own healing cells. He was famous for his contagious energy, passion, brilliant insights, sense of humor, and most of all, his unyielding integrity, honesty, and moral compass. Mark passed away in Santa Monica, California at age 69 on April 19th 2022 due to complications of Covid-19. He is survived by the love of his life, his best friend, and wife of 36 years, Saralee Berman, and his treasured son, Sean Berman.

Dr Berman did a great job repairing the mess a previous surgeon made of my breasts.
He was truly kind: always patient, he made you feel like you were the most important person he ever treated; usually ended a visit with "is there anything else you want to talk about?"
A lovely man!!

I have been a patient of Marks for 40 years. He was a God sent to me with his stem cell application after I suffered from being overrated with chemo and radiation. I am forever grateful for how he used his gift to effect my life. My heart bleeds for his loved ones, colleagues and staff. This is a great loss. I am thankful his son has stepped into his shoes and is putting wings on them. May God cradle the hearts of his family.

I just contacted Dr. Berman's office to make an appointment. I am truly saddened to hear he has passed on. I first met him in 1988 and continued with different procedures in the 90's and early 2000's. He was so influential not only in my physical changes, but my mental growth. We had a great relationship, the kind that spans over years. My deepest condolences to his entire family, I remember when his wife worked in the office with him. My best to her and their children. I have known Dr Bergman for over 25 years. He was an amazing man. I loved him so much I referred him so many patients in the Palm Desert area. He is going to be missed. He was a pure genius when it came to Plastic Surgery. God bless his beautiful wife and Son. The picture of his wife and son next to a helicopter that hung in his office is pictured in my mind. He loved them so much. May his family heal in God arms. Shannon

I knew Mark from high school and would see him at our reunions. He was a special person who always did his best in every task he tackled. I´m so sorry he left us so soon but I know he´s making heaven a better place. Rest In Peace Mark.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Mark has been a tireless advocate of stem cell possibilities, cosmetic surgery innovator and friend and mentor for over 20 years. And just as important, Mark has been a wonderful family man. I remember him with his son when his son was a young boy at our meetings. Their close and warm father-son relationship was obvious. When I joined our academy years ago, Mark was already a leader in so many ways and I looked up to him for his knowledge and dedication to our specialty as well as to his family and friends. I still do. We lectured together often over the last 20 years at our academy meetings - The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and The California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and The Aesthetic Show. I was proud to share the podium with him. It was an honor. I learned a lot about stem cell possibilities and cosmetic surgery from Mark. And about leadership. He had a truly great mind and was a good and gracious friend. And he´s been a tireless leader. Mark cared so strongly about so many causes and has had such a positive impact on so many. He is greatly missed and always will be. Blessings to you and your family now and forever, Mark. Thank you for all you have accomplished and for whom you have always been and for all the ways you have made so many people´s lives better in so many ways.

Your friend and colleague,
Thomas Barnes, M.D.
