RICHARD LANDREAU Obituary

Passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 10, 2010, at home in Granada Hills, California. His family feels the loss of a great dad, uncle, grandpa, papa, and great grandpa yet relief, that he could leave the constraints of Parkinson's behind.

Richard, also known to many as Dick, was born in Los Angeles, California February 25, 1933 the son of Charles Zeph Landreau and Ethel Genevieve Bourg Landreau. He was the youngest child of six that included: Donald, Marguerite "Marg", Laura "Lollie", Edward, "Fr. Ed", and Mary Anne White. He graduated from Verdugo Hills High School and California State University Northridge. He served in the United States Air Force with an honorable discharge.

In 1955, he married Nancy Williams and they had six children - sons, Edward Charles, Thomas Richard, Philip Joseph, Christopher John, Douglas James, and daughter, Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

He became a Teacher and Football Coach at St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge. He was a highly respected teacher and made an impact on the lives of his students. He left the teaching profession in order to better provide for his growing family and spent the majority of his career educating his clients as a Financial Advisor in primarily retirement planning.

In June of 1972 he married Jeannine Praschma Bailey, and welcomed her four children lovingly as his own including: Bradford Bailey, Susan Brunkhardt, Cheri Ruskus and Robyn Balsley. Together they purchased a home in Granada Hills for this newly blended family and he lived there until his death.

An avid golfer he traveled the world with Jeannine, playing as many courses as he could. His passion for sports is something that he has passed down to his family. Football and golf were not the only sports he was passionate about - he really loved them all including regularly attending games for the Dodgers and the UCLA Bruins. When the Olympics came to Los Angeles in 1984 he took great pride in being there every single day.

Richard was a longtime member of Porter Valley Country Club enjoying the many friendships he made there through the years. He also participated in many charity events including those through his church and the Simi Valley Kiwanis.

He had a great love for his family, which includes the surviving 10 children, 15 grandchildren - Nicole Phillips, Kellen Phillips, Chelsea Phillips, Bruce Coronado, Joe VanMeter, Heather Avery, Philip Landreau Jr., Bradford Brunkhardt, Ryan Brunkhardt, Meaghan Bailey, Matthew Bailey, Travis Ruskus, Bailey Ruskus, Katie Balsley, and Jack Balsley and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his wife, Jeannine, in 2009, both parents, brother - Donald and sister - Marg.

A memorial mass will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday January 7, 2011, at St Euphrasia Catholic Church, 11766 Shoshone Ave., Granada Hills, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Jeannine Landreau Scholarship Foundation through the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley Foundation. P.O. Box 477, Simi Valley, CA 93062. (501-C3 ID# 75-3114651)

If Mr. Landreau was anything like his wife Jeannie, then he was one great guy!!

Richard was not only a great person but he was my great grandfather too. From a child my great grandpa always had a smile on his face. He loved when his whole family got together and had big dinners. One thing I am really going to miss about him was his love for football. Me and him used to have battles over the UCLA and USC teams. I know that he is resting now with Grandma and is not in pain but I will always love him and truly do miss him each and everyday

Dear Family of Dick Landreau,
We first met Dick in early 70's when he represented IDS. He was our financial planner for over 38 years, until he got too sick. He and Jeannine stopped by a few times in Redding and we had a lot of laughs and good food.
We heard stories of all of you and the travels to Europe. We will miss him and his guidance. He made a major impact on our lives and we are so grateful for having known and worked for him.
