Sarah Hotchkin Obituary

HOTCHKIN-Sarah Catherine Hotchkin (Cathy), passed away Thursday, June 24th 2010, in Pasadena, California, at the age of 82. Having enduring a ten year long illness, Cathy was surrounded by loving family and friends to the end. Cathy was the youngest of twelve children born February 11th, 1928 to Pierce Quarles and Annie Lee (Sykes) Edwards. Although born in Birmingham, Alabama, Cathy spent most of her life, before marriage, living in Memphis, Tennessee, where she attended Hume High School. Cathy married Edgar Elwyn Hotchkin on July 11th, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan. They met in 1946, on a blind date, while Ed was stationed at Millington Naval base in Memphis. Cathy loved to travel. She and Ed traveled extensively until Cathy's illness made traveling too difficult. By motor home they visited every state in the Union, Canada and Mexico. Without the motor home, together they have explored over 20 different countries throughout the world. Cathy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edgar Elwyn Hotchkin, her two sons Terry Wayne Hotchkin and David Lynn Hotchkin, and their wives Sharon and Melissa, former daughter-in-law Janet Ann Hotchkin and five grandchildren Jonathan and Carolyn Hotchkin, Christopher Hellstrom and Daynna Shannon and Caitlin Rohan. Cathy will be remembered for her penchant for playing practical jokes and her great sense of humor that, despite her long illness, continued to the end. Cathy will be truly missed. Services are to be held on Wednesday, June 30th at 2pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park 21300 Via Verde Drive in Covina, California with a reception immediately following at the Edgar Hotchkin home in Pasadena. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in Cathy's memory to The Santa Anita YMCA 501 S. Mountain Avenue, Monrovia, California 91016.
